Feminism and the Naruto Run of Sexual Empowerment

“Clap Alien Cheeks,” a news still from a TIME magazine news report. Picture by Coke Francis

In college, I took “Black Studies” instead of “Gender Studies.” And after college, I hung around mostly black empowerment forums and YouTube videos, rather than feminist ones.

Being a so-called “black” female, there’s a balancing act I have to do. Both issues are important to me, but actions speak louder than words. So, I guess you can tell by now which issue has precedent to me.

One thing I learned from being in the black spheres is the difference between Tangible power and Symbolic power.

In America, white people have tangible power, but black people have symbolic power.

White people own 86% of the wealth in America, though they only make up 60% of the population. This means white people with that economic power have access to better homes, colleges, social circles, better opportunities, better healthcare, better a lot of things that make life RICH.

Black people have symbolic power.

Black people can say the n-word and get away with it.

Another good name for symbolic power is “BULL SHIT.”

In feminism, I think the ideas of tangible and symbolic power would apply nicely.

Feminism has granted women both tangible and symbolic benefits.

Tangible benefits are the economic power we now have. That’s definitely a good thing. Women no longer have to be at the financial beck and call of their male counterparts.

“Sexual Empowerment” is a symbolic benefit.

And yeah, it’s bullshit.

I’m sorry. But it’s bullshit.

Just as black people can call each other “nigger”, which is useless and not benefiting us economically, socially, mentally or in any sphere. Women can now say yes to having easy sex with men, which is also not benefiting us economically, socially, mentally, and damn sure not physically.

The effects of the sexual revolution are not assets to women, but liabilities. Like unwanted pregnancies, stress, STD’s, sex abuse, broken hearts and bitterness. I have another article in the works where I discuss how the sexual revolution benefited men more than women. But for now, let’s try to understand the difference between tangible assets and symbolic power.

Feminism is great. I am not anti-feminist. I’m just saying we need to stop encouraging bad ideas and start encouraging good ones.

And trading in tangible assets, like YOUR BODY, for symbolic assets like “empowerment” seems like a bad idea. Especially seeing how entitled and spoiled about sex a lot of men have become.

Remember the great “Area 51 Raid” of 2019? That was funny. And that was a show of great symbolic power of the masses versus authority.

A bunch of young people decided they were tired of all the hidden secrecy going on at Area 51, so they were going to Naruto run their way into the top-secret government facility and see if they really had Aliens up in there.

Then they realized, “Oh snap! Guns shoot real bullets!” Naruto said he can’t chi-blast his way out of bullet fire, and calmed his goofy ass down.

Thus, the Naruto runners showed their symbolic power. Theoretically, we’d storm our way in there and discover all the secrets. They wouldn’t be able to stop us all!

True. Perhaps.

But guns are a tangible asset that gives REAL power. So in the end, nothing changed.

Sexual empowerment is women Naruto running towards a romantic Utopia. Where we have happy marriages with awesome men. Where we’re not the work horses of the relationship, having to do all the boring housework and child care while they go live life and have fun!

But in reality, women still do most of the housework and child care. Except now, the men think even buying us dinner is too much work to ask for sex.

Feminism is great, but this sexual revolution Naruto run bullshit gotta go.

Because the men still hold the guns. So now, we’re just going to have a rave party out here in our “empowerment” and act like this is what we wanted the whole time?

Men are not my enemies. The patriarchy is not my enemy either.

I’m not a Republican, and I don’t own a red cap.

But if the patriarchy had some good ideas, like making men wait before having sex with them, I’m going with the patriarchy’s good idea, and feminism better not have anything to say about it.

Feminism is a device to be used for women's benefit. If we can’t change certain focus points to benefit us, then there is a serious problem.
