Chilly vibes in Canada

Why on Earth would you want to move to Canada?

This was the question a shopkeeper asked me as I purchased a padlock for my suitcase.

We were having a chat as I paid and I told him that in a few days I would be moving to Canada.

He thought I was crazy.

It was the beginning of February and it was pretty cold in London at the time, so the fact that I was about to move to somewhere even colder was baffling to him.

He wasn’t alone in this reaction either. A lot of my friends just couldn’t understand why I would choose such a cold place to live, especially after living in hotter countries like Australia.

I knew that Canada was cold but that was something I just tried not to think about. I would deal with that issue when the time arose.

Now that I am in the midst of my third winter in Canada, I still can’t say that I have gotten used to it. But I do know how prepared I need to be every time I leave my apartment.

As I write this article the temperature is currently sitting at -31 degrees. I am not even exaggerating. -37 in fact with the wind chill. ❄️

So I thought why not share some frosty winter vibes, seeing as ’tis the season?

Yep, that is right the river is officially freezing. It's still crazy to me that moving bodies of water actually freeze.

I guess that coveys how cold it gets here!

One thing I do love seeing is the snow-covered trees.

That really does exude such a Christmas vibe and makes you feel like you are truly in the depths of winter.

I find icicles so fascinating to look at, but also that immature child part of me also loves smashing them too.

Walking around in the city and in nature, you see them hanging off trees and buildings as if they have been used as purposeful decorations.

Snowflakes are so mesmerizing to look at. It amazes me that nature is so magical that she can create such beautiful shapes and intricate patterns.

Nature truly is the greatest artist.

That really is a broken tree and branches underneath the frozen lake. It’s always so intriguing to see through the ice onto what lies beneath the surface.

As harsh as this weather can be, it brings beauty and stillness with it.

For it is within winter that regeneration and quiet growth happens; a time of contemplation and reflection.
