Father’s Day

A poem about my father

Father’s Day is here But Dad you are not near Heaven has taken you To be with mum And everyone who has gone.

The memories are still clear Of the times you brought me To the park To the beach To the ice skating rink On the day I wore pink.

I remember You built our swimming pool Digging up the garden During the dull and grey summer Working hard To please us To spoil us And love us Every day And every way.

If you were here now You would not fit in For the world has changed The pandemic Would have eaten you up With frustration, Hurt and death Squalor of pity Of desperate times.

But alas, My memory of you Is clear and sound Like it was yesterday And not seven years ago When you left this earth For another path.

Grieving no more But a sadness To smile upon On a day For fathers I wish you happiness Wherever you may lay.
