Fate Is When Time Meets Opportunity
We create our destiny not the universe.

As an optimist, I believe we control our destiny. We have full control of our choices and our actions. We learn every day, we face different challenges, and the hard decisions we make are what shapes our life as we grow.
Understanding that though our life is orchestrated by a supernatural power, what we make of it afterwards is up to us. This is where fate and destiny come into force. Life is a delicate balance between the two.
Fate is described as a natural order in the occurrence that is inevitable, it can’t be changed no matter how hard we try. Fate is what happens when we don’t put in the effort to change and evolve. We let other people decide what happens in our life.
Destiny, on the other hand, is a choice. We choose what we do with our life. Destiny refers to a predetermined event, but unlike fate, certain qualities in a person like- courage, hard work, compassion, patience, and determination help shape one’s destiny.
The main difference between fate and destiny is that fate is unavoidable whereas destiny can be changed. To help you understand the difference better, let’s say you go to a party and meet a nice gentleman that was fate, but what you do with the relationship is your destiny.
I remember when I had my accident. I had multiple fractures on my spine and a dislocated hip. As if that was not enough, I was two months pregnant. The doctors said I won’t be able to walk again and that if I attempted an abortion, I may never have another baby.
I lost my job. I had to move back in with my parents to help with the transition. Year after year, I was faced with one challenge or the other. My psychological health was on the low. But still, I never gave up. As devastated as I was, I refused to believe what the results — series of X-ray and MRI said. I’m a firm believer in miracles and that made my faith stronger.
Seven years later, I started using crutches, I completed my degree and got a job as a Computer System Analyst. I wasn’t good at computer so I took an online computer training course to develop my skill in that department. Today, my computer skills have taken me further in my career than any other skill I have.
Fate presents us with opportunity but our destiny is ultimately determined by our decision. As easy as it may sound, we need to take action to make our destiny a reality. We don’t sit and let our destiny happen. Preparation in anticipation of something happening is a bigger part of fulfilling our destiny.
We hardly know when an opportunity may arise, but when it does, we can act accordingly. Some people prepare for a long time, and when the opportunity arrives, they stand transfixed and take no action.
In my opinion, action is the key to changing one’s destiny not the universe or supernatural power like most people believe. Without action, you have bad luck. As you fail to achieve that which you seek, we say it’s fate. Because we tie fate to negative events and destiny to positive events that occur in our life.
Now the question is, how do you take control of your destiny? How do you overcome the fears and take action when an opportunity knocks on your door?
Be passionate about your goal
Passion is a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for doing something. It is the very thing that makes you feel happy. It motivates you to become the best of yourself. To be passionate about something, it must be important to you.
Sometimes, our subconscious mind plays a trick on us. You believe that you want or need to be successful in a task, that you want certain items, or that you are achieving other goals, but in reality, your heart and soul have little desire for these things.
If you know that thing that will drive you, motivate you and inspire you to achieve your goal, then that’s passion. When you are passionate about your job, your life, you will be able to create new ideas and be successful. More importantly, you will be content and happy with yourself.
Pay attention to limiting beliefs
When you keep repeating the same circle of self-sabotage, you might end up missing the call of fate. You cannot see fate if you are constantly using your free will to repeat destructive patterns. If you want to change your life, you have to do things differently as you have never done.
Self-destructive beliefs are the main obstacle most people encounter when trying to fulfil their destiny. Common self-destructive beliefs include “I am not worthy”, “I am stupid”, “I am a bad person” and “I do not deserve happiness”.
When we fill our thoughts with these limiting believes, we experience anger, insecurity, sadness, shame, and fear. Believe me, I have been there and I know how bad these beliefs play out in destroying a person.
Core beliefs are the main ideas we have about ourselves and have been conditioned to believe from birth. Adopting an optimistic mindset creates a bridge between your subconscious negative thoughts and your goal.
Show yourself a little compassion
We have heard that self-confidence is a key to personal development. However, self-compassion can be a better way to approach success and personal development.
For example, self-confidence makes you feel better about your abilities, while self-compassion encourages you to recognize your flaws and limitations. And once you recognize and accept your flaws, you’re more likely to view them objectively and realistically. This, in turn, can create positive changes in your life.
The more love and compassion you show for yourself, the more inspired you will be to reaching your final destination. Be aware of negative and critical thoughts and let them go without being attached to them.
Set realistic and achievable goals
Goals are clearly defined milestones that can help you organize and prioritize what matters most to you. Make sure your goals can be achieved. If you set a goal that you don’t expect to achieve, you will only be demoralized. Without goals, you have no focus or direction.
When setting goals for yourself, it’s important to be motivated- that means making sure they are important to you and that they are worth achieving. Goal setting gives you control over your life; it also guides you through the entire course of action- whether you are succeeding or failing.
Think about it, having a million dollars in the bank is only proof of success if one of your goals is to accumulate wealth. If your goal is to be buy a house then all of a sudden keeping the money to yourself is contrary to how you would define success.
List all your strengths
The universe will not live your life for you; It’s up to you to be in control of your life. To make good decisions, you need to know your strengths. This simple exercise can help you discover your energy in a more sustainable and beneficial way. A lot of people have jobs they hate because they haven’t found that real passion. They’re good at some things, so they keep doing it, but they’re not sure what that great thing they want to do forever could be.
For example, you could be an exceptional student even if you don’t have a passion for academics. Or you’re naturally good at baseball, but that’s not what you really want to pursue. But one of the ways in which these strengths can reveal themselves tremendously is by using them as a model to uncover talents that you may not be aware of.
Make a list of all the things you need skill to do. Don’t take them for granted. There are a lot of things that reveal your passion. Your potential is unlimited so take time to reflect on your list to know what leads to your passion.
Remember that the setbacks are a part of your growth
There is no such thing as failure, only learning opportunities. If you don’t like something, take a deep breath and realize that sometimes life wants us to go in a different direction.
On your journey to discovering your destiny, it is inevitable that you will encounter obstacles and challenges that may seem too great at the time, but it is always important to step back and keep the final destination in mind.
Despite the size of the obstacle, remember that in order to get something that you have never had, you have to step out of your comfort zone and do things that you have never done. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, remind yourself of your goal and why, and I can assure you, it will inspire you to keep going.
Be open to new opportunities
If you’ve been so unhappy lately. You don’t socialize, you don’t have a job, you spend hours watching Tv, and you don’t even have a date. How are you evolving? How do you expect fate to find you? If this is how you live, nothing will change. Fate will not be able to reach you with new opportunities. You must be open to change, otherwise, you will never hear fate knocking on the door.
You are using your free will to stay too long in the wrong places. You try to force them to work. This habit will only make you feel depressed. Even though the situation with your ex broke your heart, you didn’t let him go. You used your free will to keep yourself in a very painful place.
Start by getting off that couch. Meet new people, show excitement for change, and create an opportunity by making a hobby from the things within your reach.
Take actions or nothing will change
If you wait for the universe to take you to a better place, you will wait forever. Fate brings you possibilities, but it cannot make you accept them. Even if you have kept your head down for years, fate will continue to present itself until you are ready to reach out and accept it.
Fate never gives up on you. You can never lose what’s right for you, but you can put it off. For example, if you miss a potential soul mate, he or she will come back to you later. This is how fate works.
You are in control of your life; not the other way round. Fate is what will happen to you in life, and destiny is what you want to do with it. You might not get what you want in life, but you always get what you choose. Don’t sit on the couch and watch the opportunities go by. If you don’t do anything, you don’t achieve anything.
