Fareha: Hacking Happiness

Writer’s bio

Peace be upon everyone at Illumination! I am thankful to be among such a wonderful community of authors who touch so many lives with their words.

Author in her natural habitat

I am Fareha. It is a Persian word which means “a person who is always happy". However, it is not natural to sustain happiness as I have realized in three decades of my life. Achievements can bring about happiness but the resulting positive emotional state is temporary; something called as Hedonic Adaptation. However, people can sustain happiness as long as they continue having or optimizing their positive experiences while avoiding wanting too much. Also, I find that rather than focusing on the next goal one should try to enjoy the ride.

But I digress! I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Islamabad, Pakistan. On the work front, I am a scholar of International Relations. I teach and research on international social and political issues.

On the other hand, I have learnt and work as an independent lifestyle optimization consultant. I offer an array of services, including training in cross-cultural etiquette and behavior.

In one word, however, I like to identify myself as a learner. That is why I delve in eclectic topics for reading and writing. I tend to go back to school after every few years to learn something new and hope to continue doing that.

Thank you for reading. Looking forward to connect with all of you. Thanks to Dr Mehmet Yildiz for letting me write for Illumination.
