Fantastic Voyage Part 22: It’s Okay to Ask for Help….And to Receive Help

Let’s chat about asking for help and receiving help from the people who love you the most. For me, this was a particular struggle because asking for help meant that I had to be vulnerable.

This is one of the things that I struggled with throughout my life because I never wanted to show weakness, to show that I needed something, for someone to hold something over my head, or to be made to feel as if I owed someone something.

However, this is not sustainable because we are interdependent in this world. Everyone needs their people and we all need help sometimes. I had to get to the bottom of my issues with asking for help. Remaining curious about why you do the things you do can not only increase your self-awareness, but the moments of clarity can also facilitate change. For me, asking for help took prayer, self-realization, accountability to others, and a few circumstances that made it impossible for me to try to go alone. Those circumstances include hospitalizations as well as a host of other circumstances.

When I opened up to allow myself to be helped and loved, this was the biggest blessing and joys of my life. Do not underestimate the power of partnership. The scriptures remind us that one can put 1,000 to flight and two can put 10,000 (Deuteronomy 32:30). We are stronger together.

I am grateful for the lessons and hope that you can learn from my story.
