Family Christmas Festivities Can Get Out Of Hand
An argument turns into a shooting
Families often have happy gatherings at Christmas
Christmas is normally a happy time of the year. It is when families and friends get together often for parties and gatherings. People who seldom see each other during the year may join together for Christmas festivities. These are usually happy occasions where people enjoy each other’s company.
Many families spend Christmas Day and Christmas Eve together. They expect that it will be a joyous occasion. It doesn’t always stay that way as indicated by what happened to a Utah family.
Matthew Sampson and Victoria Hill reported for KUTV in Salt Lake City. It was a story about: “Police: Father shoots son after Christmas Eve argument in West Jordan.”
The incident happened in West Jordan, which is southwest of Salt Lake City. A forty-four year old man is in police custody. He allegedly shot his son on Christmas Eve after an argument. Alcohol was involved according to police who were called to the home around 10 pm on Christmas Eve.
The man who did the shooting was confronted by his son for calling his grandmother “a name.” The father struck his wife and then hit his son. After pinning his father to the ground until he thought he was calm, the son then let the father get up.
The man went into the bedroom and came back with a gun which he fired at his son. He hit him in the shoulder. The son was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The father was arrested and taken into custody.
What a nightmare ending to a Christmas Eve family party which should have been a happy time! It could have been worse. The father could have killed his own son. Guns, alcohol, and anger are a bad mix for any family gathering.
