Facebook and Google Must Stop Personalized Ads
Facebook and Google need to ban their personalized ads. How can you take it into your own hands?
I guess what. Do you have Facebook?
I guess what. Do you own a Google account and its service?
I believe you have both services. You use it a lot. Every day. You give daily updates on your Facebook status and you're emailing your parents frequently via your Gmail account. Am I right?
Do you probably think why you suddenly get the ad on Facebook or Google from the dress on the website you just visited? It is the same dress you just bought.
How do they know that? Well, Google and Facebook save your personal data. And it is without your consent.
You use a lot of personal information in your conversations online. And these conversations will be used by Google and Facebook. Just to personalize ads for you. Just to get money for their own benefits.
Personalized ads
We know that Google and Facebook are getting a lot of data from us. Such as what you’re browsing, what friends you have and they’ll collect everything from us we post and we write privately. Privately is, unfortunately, not the case. They still collect our data.
They will use to give you personalized ads.
What do you get from these personal ads? Nothing.
Do you get any money from Facebook and Google for their personalized ads you get? We don’t get any money from the data they collect from us. We don’t get any cents from these personalized ads.
Who gets the money then? Guess who. Facebook and Google get the money we should get.
Yes, who gets the benefits of the personalized ads?
Indeed, the rich ones: Facebook and Google.
Have you ever have given any consent by doing this? Do you want that? Do you want your personal data are going to be used with Google and Facebook?
I don’t think so.
I think a hundred times before I post pictures of my daughters and myself online since I know about it. Then I know which pictures they have. I’d rather post pictures from nature where I have been.
Take it into your own hands
I should say, we have to take this matter into our own hands and don’t let Facebook and Google go with our data.
Do they really have to know where you ate with friends last night? Do they really have to know which concerts you visited last month? Do they really have to know what you’re typing right now? Do they really have to know what dress you bought one week ago?
I don’t think so. I don’t want to.
If you really don’t want to get personalized ads, then take action and take it all into your own hands.
There a few things you can do.
One of them is signing a petition. Paul Tang, an MEP for the Labor Party from The Netherlands, in the European Parlament, is concerned about this big problem. He started a petition against getting personalized ads. I signed up for it and I want to let you know you can do too.
With the slogan “Let Zuck know his ads Zuck” he wants to get attention to this problem.
Why do you need to sign the petition? Well, that is easy for me: because if you get personalized ads, they have all your data. They do whatever they want to do with your personal data. I think it is important to protect your data as much as you can.
When they don’t have your personal data, they can’t put your data online and save it for their benefits. It is not fair. Your data should be yours and if they have it and they’re doing anything with it, then you’re the one who should get benefits from your data.
Are you in?
