F&#k What the World Thinks

Getting older is not as bad as everyone believes

Daring to be — image by author using Fotor AI

as I begin to embrace getting older when time has weathered my body I care less what others think

no longer am I a slave to community old age unveils a freedom no need for pretense no need for tyranny of expectations

beneath the sun’s warm and tender caress I revel in sheer nakedness no judgment lingers no judgmental eyes stare back in the mirror

clothed in the hues of life draped like a well-worn costume of sunshine and shadows with lines etched by time like badges of pride I dare to be honest

How do I explain how in my seventies I continue to take time to be authentic? Am I the hermit in a cave in Thus Spoke Zarathustra, or a monk sitting bared to the world beneath an Indian banyan tree? I make people uncomfortable, or so I think, with my nudity if they happen to look.

Though I couldn’t care less what they think, I still choose the moments and the location for shedding my clothing. I don’t live alone. I don’t want to put stress on my partner in life despite my claims in the poem. Yet, there are many times when I am unclothed, something that works well for both of us as long as I keep it a private affair.

Getting older doesn’t always suck.
