Extraordinary Magnets

a poem

Magnets of something extraordinary;

viewpoint, journey flowers, blur, something something underwater

steady steady, sheep, like, everywhere what am I even saying, or listening to, or viewing,

and perhaps that’s just the experience of living, you just float on

look into the skies a yawning moon, is she finally tired of our cruelty?

peek through what’s beyond, scared faces looking on.

Thank you to Kevin Alexander for the following prompt, submitted Nov 23, 2021!:

Hi Lucy! I heard “Float On” by Modest Mouse for the 1st time in years recently, and it’s been in my head ever since.

And oh boy, was I in for a surprise. This song was nothing I expected:

It felt like witnessing music in the form of a surreal meme. And so, the ensuing poem is much the same. It may not make sense, but that’s how listening to this song felt, on first glance. Why were there sheep? Why is the moon yawning? Is it meant to be positive and optimistic? What happened to the sheep? I don’t quite get it, and have this sinking feeling that I will never truly get it. But that is also life.

Why is the moon yawning?

Maybe she is tired.

Hi, I’m Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) and guess what? You, too, can give me a wild prompt for me to try and craft you a home-brewed piece.
