There have been a number of writers who had mental health issues. In their case writing could not repair the state of their minds and the depression they experienced, unfortunately. However, these talented writers, Edgar Allan Poe, Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, Leo Tolstoy, Sylvia Plath and F. Scott Fitzgerald, did create valuable literary pieces.

There have been times when I have had experiences, that I wrote about in my writings. I enjoy writing and I find it very therapeutic. I usually have strong opinions on issues, I feel that the best way for me to express my ideas and to really write about the way I feel about a situation is to write a relatable story on it and share it online. It is a great feeling to know that the words you write, that reflect the way you feel, can be presented to readers and fellow writers to read and enjoy.

The important point to know when putting your thoughts, ideas and emotions into a literary piece, is to include the background of the situation in your narration. This is also an opportunity to create the situation and your reaction to the event, that make it enjoyable for the reader and is in a way a form of therapy for you as the writer. Writing does reduce the stress that you feel and indirectly, also reduces illness.

Expressive writing can make you healthier, as it will make an impact on your mind, the way that you feel and the way in which you react to your environment. Science writers will say that writing is a great way for you to feel better, knowing that the work you are doing as a writer, makes a positive difference to your health.
