Exploring The World Of Social Media

Letting My Creativity Free

The thing with starting over in a new town?

It’s a whole new chance at something better than you had.

Sometimes, you just need to go looking for it.

Even when your dodging bad luck.

It struck before our journey out one morning.

Our new fridge is small, so small I knocked over a pitcher of juice and unfortunately had to clean it out of the bottom of the fridge and the floor.

Not how I saw my morning going. I knew in that moment that getting out was going to be the best thing for us.

So we did and it was.

One of the most fun things you can do after a move is explore.

We ventured out to find the library.

You can never have too many books to read.

We have a friendly competition going at home to see which of us can read the most books.

Which may be my saving grace because we walked further than expected yesterday. Pain is everything right now. I am limping more than I have ever limped before.

Visiting the library I was at a loss of what I wanted to read. So I just started browsing. Hoping something would jump out at me.

As I was browsing the shelves, I came across a couple books that flow into something else I have been exploring lately.

I’ve made no secret about my love for social media and why.

I have written about social media more than once. You can see a list here.

Since I have left Twitter and the Musk drama behind, it hasn’t quite been the same.

Throw in the changes that we’re all experiencing here on Medium, I am with Robin Wilding 💎It’s time to stop being monogamous to one platform.

The books that jumped out at me agree.

I started a Youtube Channel months ago and never really went anywhere with it. I was still struggling with Medium and all that went with that. So it wasn’t the time.

But it could be soon.

I’m not entirely sure where either book will get me but they shake up my reading pile and they both cover something I am interested in.

Medium is great and I have met so many great people here.

But I want (and need) more than Medium is willing to give me.

I have creative juices that are flowing and I deserve to be able to put them out into the world without being buried by content that they feel should be read instead.

No one is going to put it out there for me, so it’s up to me to give myself that shot. Anxiety can bite me.

What’s next?

I’m not entirely sure. I am still in the brainstorming stages. But I have been super secretly checking out things like Twitch, Instagram, and even discord. I’m also trying to get back to doing more with my Ko-fi.

Now that things are settling more around the new place, things can slowly start coming together with my side projects hopefully.

Twitch

I haven’t come across too many gamers around Medium. But I love gaming and I’ve recently found some other disabled streamers and thought it would be fun to check out and maybe even jump in.

I love games that involve crafting, exploring, grinding types. Runescape, Albion Online. I’ve been exploring a bit of Guild Wars 2. I haven’t made the jump to stream yet however.

Where are all my gamers at?

Bonus: One of my library books was called Don’t read the comments and the main character is a female streamer who also happens to be a person of colour. I feel like the timing was one of those nudges.

What this means for Medium

I have decided to let my creativity free. Medium is a great starting point, but it doesn’t deserve all my eggs. There is too much of me and not enough love back from Medium.

I’ve watched writers I love disappear for a variety of reasons but a big one was views and reads dropping. It also is getting so hard to find the people we love to read. Or to find new people we have an interest in reading.

So, I am going to love Medium the way I do now.

With a spread sheet so I can find the people I love to read. I will continue to put my words here but I will also now be more visible in other places.

I am expanding my social network and my bubble and letting my creativity free. If you want to find me you can do so on Mastodon, Instagram, Twitch, Youtube, or Ko-fi.

Have you considered more than just Medium? What platforms are you exploring? I would love to hear your stories (and links) in the comments.
