Exploring Science and Spirituality
From Sugarcane to Self-Awareness: A Journey through Cause and Effect, Science, and Spirituality.
In this world, nothing happens without a cause. In every situation, there exists a cause and effect. When we approach any task with reason and logic, at that very moment, we are drawn towards the concepts of cause and effect. We can observe what the cause of something is by simply looking at it.
For instance, when we see sugar, what is the cause of sugar? Sugar’s cause is the element of sugarcane. If sugarcane is the cause, then sugar is the effect. When sugarcane is the effect, then the seed becomes the cause. Hence, in every aspect of life, there is a causal element.
What is science? Science is based on rationality and considers cause and effect elements. Maharishi Kanad once said that where there is no cause, there can be no effect. The practice of spiritual discipline falls within the realm of science. Lord Shiva himself sought the exploration of spiritual science. Spirituality is the path to self-awareness.
All living beings possess knowledge to some extent but lack inner knowledge. In humans, however, there is both knowledge and internal knowledge. Human beings are a unique species of nature, with some parts of their brain in a conscious state and some in an unconscious state. Yet, all their capabilities exist therein.
Once, Mother Parvati asked Lord Shiva how one could know and experience that devotion is the only path. To this, Lord Shiva replied that when people dedicate themselves to the Supreme Being to develop all their possible capabilities, they become devotees.
This state is called devotion. Lord Shiva further explains that when the consciousness of the mind transcends the external world and transforms into the internal world, that is actual knowledge, that is self-awareness. There is no place here for superficial knowledge.
