Explore These 3 Unusual Ways To Help You Become Unstuck
I wrote this for you
Feeling stuck sucks! Some people find their thing early in life, others, like you and me, it takes us longer. You feel like you’re stuck in a big ball of confusion. What’s my next move? Why do I keep fighting with myself in my head? What’s wrong with me?
This internal battle can leave you frustrated and extremely exhausted. Like a pinball machine, your indecisive brain is pinging from one idea to the next. And you hope this next one will be the one. Only it’s not. Or maybe it is.
So, what’s going on?
First of all, nothing is wrong with you. Paradoxically, you are actually in a good position. You’re in a place of growth. So take that as a good sign. Yes, I know it feels more like emotional torture than the sunshine and pots of gold people will tell you growth is about. But the truth is, growth is uncomfortable.
The discomfort is how you grow. The confusion, the frustration, the desire to pull your brain out of your ears and give it a good shake… all purposeful.
Yet this is when most people give up! This stage is when people throw in the towel on their dreams. It becomes too tough. Too emotionally challenging. Failing time and time again. Nothing seems to work and the dream drifts further and further away. Or does it?
I believe in fate. Things happen for a reason. You and me, we have a path we’re meant to follow. Only the path takes twists and turns. Sometimes it might feel like you’re going the wrong way. And that’s okay. You can change direction at any time.
Changing direction isn’t quitting. Changing direction is exploring other avenues, and options and creating new opportunities. What’s the point in wasting your emotional energy on things that have diminishing returns?
If it affects your mental health. Change. If it affects your family. Change. If it no longer feels right. Change.
So, what can you do?
Let me be bold. YOU WILL SUCCEED. But only if you promise to never stop. Be brave enough to change up your ideas, but never stop.
And now you’ve sworn your declaration to success (FYI, this now makes us comrades) let me offer you three things that will help.
Actually, let me offer you four. Because this first one is by and large the most effective –
Hire a mentor or coach.

The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves — Steven Spielberg
If you can find the finances get a mentor or coach. This will change your life. You cannot put a price on someone holding your hand and guiding you through your magnificent but confused brain. It really is invaluable.
Yet, not everyone is in a position to invest that kind of cash (yet). So in the meantime, while you save your pennies, the following steps are the next best –
1. Go out and talk to people
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with — Jim Rohn
Find people like you. People who are driven, motivated, and hungry to succeed. It doesn’t matter too much what they do. What you want is their energy. Because who you surround yourself with influences your mindset, your actions, and your beliefs.
Imagine for a second you grew up next door to Steve Jobs. Every other weekend he’d invite you over for a BBQ and cheeky gin. Where he’d openly chat about his ideas, success, and many, many failures. You’d see the world in a completely different light. You’d be inspired in ways you never knew possible.
Unfortunately, you probably didn’t grow up next door to Steve Jobs. Or any other inspiring entrepreneur, athlete, or creative. Maybe you grew up surrounded by people who refuse to dream. Who do nothing but complain about life? Maybe you have been around the wrong people for too long. It could be it’s time to change your environment.
2. Write online (and in private)
Good ideas come from bad ideas, but only if there are enough of them — Seth Godin
Writing gives you clarity. It allows you to explore and spread your ideas. All those things running around in your mind need somewhere to go. Don’t be afraid to write them down and share them. Maybe people like it, maybe they don’t. It really doesn’t matter.
The truth is bad ideas are the best. Because bad ideas can grow into good ideas. Good ideas can grow into great ideas. And great ideas change the world. But you need a bunch of bad ideas before you can find the great ones.
By sharing your ideas, you attract like-minded people. People like you. People like me. People like us. And people like us can talk about our bad ideas and maybe, just maybe come up with a great idea.
Added bonus:
You can make money by writing online. Take this platform (Medium) for example. You can get paid real cash for your bad ideas. How’s that for an incentive?
Just don’t make it your prime reason. Because then you fall into the trap of writing for profit. And you become more obsessed with data and algorithms than you do value. Write to spread ideas. Write to share value. Write to make the world a better place. And then, if you make money in the process, awesome!
3. Experiment for fun and explore your curiosity.
Be curious. Read widely. Try new things. What people call intelligence just boils down to curiosity — Aaron Swartz
You need to be creative here. Try things you’ve never done before. Things that won’t have a negative impact on your life. For example, test out your new business idea on the market (before you quit your job). Start a podcast and interview cool people. Take up a new sport or fitness regime that’s always tickled your curiosity, but you were too afraid to give it a go.
By exploring your curiosity, you can scratch itches that need scratching. The itch may turn out to be as exciting as watching paint dry, or it could be the one thing that changes your life.
It could open new opportunities, develop new connections, and could potentially be the gateway you’ve been looking for. But you’ll never know until you try.
From experience, people become too fixed in their ways. Too tunneled visioned. Too afraid to explore. The truth is to live a full life requires experiences. Experiences good and bad shape your future. Experiences change your ideas. Experiences change your perspective on the world. Don’t be afraid to explore the unknown.
Parting thoughts –
Feeling stuck sucks! But take it as a sign of growth. Not stagnation. Think of it as your brain’s way of saying, “Hey, we need to open up here and explore”
If you can, hire a coach or seek out mentorship. It will change your life. Or (and additionally) …
- Go out and talk to people
- Write online (and in private)
- Experiment for fun and explore your curiosity
Your brain is a magnificent instrument. It’s also destructive if you allow it to work against you.
