Day 22: earthy poem

Boundaries are drawn and redrawn. Trenches are dug, and wires are laid out. Billions and trillions of bricks are covering the surface. Trees and forests are being ruthlessly cut off.

Seven continents and five oceans are arbitrarily changed and exchanged. The number game about the territorial units is never-ending. The race to exploit every bit of viable resource out of Mother Earth is being fought by her children. Her sons and daughters are bent upon destroying her at every cost.

No one can agree on the magnitude of destruction. No one wants to accept the responsibility and hold others responsible for the damage. Everyone is just busy diversifying and multiplying their assets at her expense. Everyone agrees that the smartest and wealthiest will win the race of annihilating her.

What kind of family are we? We have ignited a fire in our own home. What kind of monsters are we? We have devoured our mother.

We don’t feel her pain anymore. We’ve witnessed the extinction of millions of living beings. We’re clueless about the plight of billions of migrants and the homeless. We have lost our senses.

Our mansions will turn to dust and grime because we could not save her. Our foundations have been uprooted forever. Our world is plunged into a helpless state of death and scarcity. Oh! Mother, we’re responsible for your demise.
