Experience Botswana’s Best Wildlife Areas: Revealing the Wild Side of Africa
Botswana is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa and is famous for its spectacular wildlife areas. These are home to a variety of animals such as elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and many more. Botswana has some of the best game viewing in the world, and here are a few of them that stand out.
- Chobe National Park. Chobe National Park is located in the northeastern part of Botswana and is one of the largest game reserves in the country. It is home to over 50,000 elephants, making it one of the best places to see elephants in Africa. Visitors can also see lions, leopards, hyenas, and many more animals. The park is also known for its river cruises on the Chobe River, which allows visitors to see animals such as hippos, crocodiles, and elephants up close.
- The Okavango Delta is a vast inland delta, famous for its unique ecosystem and diverse wildlife. There are many activities to enjoy in this pristine wilderness area, including game drives, bush walks, and mokoro experiences. A game drive offers the opportunity to see big cats such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as elephants, buffalo, and many antelope species. For a more immersive experience, a bush walk with a knowledgeable guide can be an excellent way to explore the delta’s flora and fauna. Mokoro experiences are also a popular activity, allowing visitors to glide through the shallow waters in traditional dugout canoes, watching for hippos, crocodiles, and other aquatic species.
- Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is the largest game reserve in Botswana and is located in the heart of the Kalahari Desert. It is a unique ecosystem that is home to a variety of animals such as giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas, and the elusive brown hyena. Visitors see the animals up close and also learn about the local San Bushmen people and their way of life.
- Makgadikgadi Pans: The Makgadikgadi Pans is located in the northeastern part of Botswana and is a unique ecosystem that is home to a variety of animals such as zebras, wildebeests, and flamingos. It is also home to the largest salt pans in the world, which are a must-see attraction.
- Moremi Game Reserve. Moremi Game Reserve is located in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta and is one of the most beautiful game reserves in Botswana. It is home to a variety of animals such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs.
