Exciting Updates of MidJourney: Big V6 Launch Right Before Xmas; AI Video Will Be Unlike ANY Others!

Hey my fellow followers and MidJourney fans! Here’s another “Exciting Updates of MidJourney”, bringing you the comprehensive recap of the latest MidJourney weekly Office Hours on Dec 6 (David Holz, the MidJourney founder, giving updates and answering community questions on MidJourney Discord every Wednesday)!

In the MidJourney Office Hours today on Dec 6, David announced:

• The big V6 launch will be released in around 2–3 weeks — right before Christmas, with text drawing ability and way more realistic images, along with many other new upgrades;
• MidJourney website with a new downloader will arrive this week; image creation ability will be released next week;
• Videos that will be unlike any others, style & character consistency, and the new MidJourney V6 Style Tuner will come after V6!

✨ Current Focus of MidJourney Team

— MidJourney Website Phase 2 launch with lots of new features will be released in phases this week and next week;

— MidJourney V6 launch with text drawing ability and way more realistic images in 2–3 weeks, right before Christmas!

💻 Phase 2 MidJourney Website with Lots of New Features Rolling Out in Phases

🗓️ Releasing this week:

• A new batch downloader on the MidJourney website can highlight, select, and grab certain sets of images to download.

📆 Releasing next week:

• A new collection feature that will let you put images into different collections and download them.
• The Big release of the image creation feature on the MidJourney website will first be released to MidJourney Power Users (who have generated 10K+ images).
• Afterward, image creation will gradually be enabled for 5K/2K/1K MidJourney users in phases, and will eventually be available for new users after improving the community/social features on the website.

🗓️ Releasing sometime this month:

• A new Explore Page on the website (the front page recommendations) will enforce more diversity of images, making it way more interesting.
• May throw in “personalization stuff” to allow users to filter what images they want to explore, like portraits, landscapes, etc.

🎄 Big MidJourney V6 Launch will come with Text-Drawing Ability & Even MORE Photorealistic Images, Arriving Right Before Xmas!

— According to David Holz, the current MidJourney V6 model is fairly well-trained now and does many things well.

— The team is “massaging” the final image quality metrics now.

🤖 The prompting strategy for MidJourney V6 will be different:

• The V6 model has pretty powerful image-prompting;
• It will be way more sensitive to the words you use;
• Users will need to be more careful with the use of words;
• Users will need “cleaner and more specific prompts” and less junk words;
• Prompts will need to be less “vibe-based” but more specific.

🧐 Here are what’s new with MidJourney V6:

• Much more coherent;
• Will have a way better upscaler than the current one (will have both “faithful” and “creative” upscalers, much higher resolution, and will improve the problems of the current upscaler);
• Much more aesthetic;
• Much more knowledge;
• Better language/prompt understanding (which is not perfect yet due to some current limitations, but they will keep improving it with MidJourney V7);
• Will most likely keep a 2×2 grid and 1024 resolution;
• Text-drawing ability: can draw at least single words; whole sentences may not be released with the first version of MidJourney V6 yet;
• V6 images will look much more realistic with better textures and lighting. Pretty big jump from V5;

• MidJourney V6 may not have all the features from day one, but they will be added gradually after.

💡 Current Status of MidJourney V6

— There will be an internal rating party early next week.

—After the internal rating party, there will be an external rating party for the whole MidJourney community later next week.

— MidJourney users can rate images based on whatever they care about the most, such as prompt accuracy and aesthetics.

—There will be a 2nd rating party, then V6 will be ready to release.

— MidJourney V6 will likely be released in the 3rd or 4th week of December, right before the Christmas holidays. Yayyy! 🎅🏻🥳

😃 Other Exciting Things to Work On After The V6 Launch

📺 Video and 3D

— The MidJourney team will start to train the video/animation model, which will come before 3D.

— Video: already have all the data needed to train the model.

— 3D: needs more data to train, so it’s a bit slower than expected.

— MidJourney video will not be like any other AI video products that are currently available out there and will be 10X better.

— According to David Holz, “MidJourney video may not be consistently making what you want, but the quality will be consistently good by default.”

🖼️ Style Consistency

— The MidJourney team will work on style consistency after the V6 release.

— The team already knows how to make a style consistency tool, which will be used to build the new Style Tuner for V6, allowing consistent styles across multiple prompts.

— Style consistency with the new Style Tuner will possibly be released in Q1 2024.

⚙️ New V6 Style Tuner

— The next version of Syle Tuner will be really different than the current one.

— The new Style Tuner will have more instant feedback and be way more consistent in styles.

— It may have less than 128 style directions from day one but it will add more over time.

— After launching the V6 Style Tuner with style consistency, they will work on character consistency.

— The MidJourney team hasn’t experimented much on that yet, but David is optimistic they can make it work.

“Hopefully, everybody’s not planning to do anything over Christmas break except for MidJourney V6. That will be pretty awesome.”

It looks like this December will not only be another holiday season but also an exciting month for MidJourney fans!
