Everyone Should Wake Up Before 6am. Here’s Why

Transform your life in as little as an hour a day.

“Early to bed, and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” — Benjamin Franklin

Waking up early will transform your life.

There’s no doubt about this. People have known the power of waking up early since the time of the ancient Romans. But these days, hardly anyone wakes up early, especially if they don’t have to.

Waking up early is hard work. You’re tired. You have kids to feed and dogs to walk and no time for yourself. But this is exactly why you should wake up early.

If you don’t have time to change your life, this article is for you.

Here’s why you should wake up at 6am (or earlier!) every single day.

1. Connect With Your Purpose

“Most people wake up frantic and busy. They haven’t given themselves time to connect with themselves, their higher purpose, and their Higher Power. Hence, most people are operating at a very low level. If you want to operate at an INSPIRED and powerful level, you need time, first thing in the morning, to connect with yourself. You need to reconnect with your PURPOSE.” — Benjamin Hardy

How often do you feel frantic and rushed in the morning?

And how often do you carry this feeling with you for the rest of the day?

So many people wake up in this state. Their alarm goes off, they snooze it a few times, and before they know it they’re half an hour behind. Starting your day on the back foot is never going to be beneficial.

Waking up early gives you time. You don’t need to rush anything.

And this is perfect for reconnecting with your purpose, or your higher power, or God.

You enter into the day knowing why you’re here and what good you’ll be bringing the world today.

Do you wake up feeling groggy and low on energy? Chances are you’re just not excited to be waking up and starting a new day.

A sense of excitement and anticipation for the day ahead is the best way to have boundless energy every morning.

2. Work on Your Goals

“If you want the secret to success, if you want to start executing at a higher level, then you have to get in the habit of waking up early.” — Ryan Holiday

Waking up early provides you with a huge opportunity to work on your goals.

And this is how you will experience huge success in your life.

In 2020, I started waking up early to write. I was working full time and writing a thesis for my MSc. So I’d get up early to write before the day started.

In 9 months, I left my full time job to write full time.

Waking up early to work on even one big goal will undoubtedly change your life.

You underestimate how much you can achieve in as little as an hour a day. Remember that this sort of thing compounds. Yeah, it’s just an hour today.

But an hour every day for a few months will be over 90 hours.

Imagine what you can achieve with 90 hours of intentional, focused work.

3. Build Momentum

“Waking up early is the first decision that dominoes into other better decisions” — Benjamin Hardy

When you wake up early, you’ve already achieved a huge win for the day.

You know the feeling. When you get up before everyone else. The world is quiet. That in itself will get you excited for the day.

If you wake up early, you’ve already won the day. The rest is just extra.

But this sense of achievement has a flow-on effect — you’ll carry this throughout the day.

You wake up early, and soon the rest of your decisions align with the identity of someone who wakes up early and works hard on their dreams.

You change your mindset.

I’ve always loved this quote:

“How you do anything is how you do everything.” — Zen Buddhism

Think about the mornings where you wake up late, rush around, scroll on your phone for 30 minutes or sit and watch TV. There’s no momentum. And getting started on other things is an uphill battle.

But starting the day with momentum makes everything else so much easier.

You’re more likely to exercise, to eat well, to read a book rather than scroll on your phone.

This is where the compound effect really starts kicking in.

It’s no longer just one hour in the morning that compounds. It’s how you spend your entire day.

“The day has already begun to lessen. It has shrunk considerably, but yet will still allow a goodly space of time if one rises, so to speak, with the day itself. We are more industrious, and we are better men if we anticipate the day and welcome the dawn.” — Seneca

You have the power to change your life in as little as an hour a day if you wake up early.

The morning hours are conducive to meaningful work. To stillness. To connecting with yourself and your greater purpose.

Set your alarm and start changing your life tomorrow.
