Even If You Don’t Like Logan From Succession, There Are Still Things We Can Learn From Him.
My thoughts on two of Logan’s quotes from Succession Season Three
I know that as much as I want to believe that the world is changing, we still live in a world where white men have the power. I don’t have anything against white men; if I did, I wouldn’t be in a relationship with one. This is not to say that having white men in power is wrong or right; it’s just to say that this is the reality we live in. But I hope one day things change.
I don’t like Longan from Succession, the powerful man behind one of the most important fictional conglomerates in the world: Waystar Royco, which has diversified businesses in the fields of Media, Entertainment, Parks/Cruises, and others. But I can’t deny that there are things to learn with him about how the world actually works.
I have a really bad memory, so I won’t be able to mention quotes from Season One or Two, as at the moment, I am watching Season Three. But two of Logan’s quotes got me thinking.
The first one is:
“Nothing is a line. Everything, everywhere is always moving. Forever. Get used to it.”
I like this because it alerts us that we can’t settle, that we always need to be moving, and that people can change their minds, so what worked in the past doesn’t necessarily will work in the future. It also tells us about how we need to learn to adapt. Logan has been in business for decades, and communications are one of the things that changed the most over the last 60 years, so he knows what he is talking about. To be kept on top demanded a lot of him. Also, this quote tells us that sometimes we will need to cross some lines and draw new lines to get what we want. It’s all about the long-term game.
The second one is:
“The law is people. And people is politics.”
That’s the truth that most of us try to ignore because it’s hard to swallow. We can’t deny that the world is on the stage because the laws are applied differently for different people. We can’t deny that the justice system is harder for people from different backgrounds and that if you have the right connections, you can be above the law. Because the law is people, and people are politics, so in the end, you just need the right people to get you what you want and break the law, or even better, make a law that works for you. White men have done it in the past, and they keep doing it. Logan uses the laws as his favour as his please, because he has mastered the game of people.
The third season of Succession finished, and I really enjoyed the season finale. It was good and promised an excellent start to the fourth season. I can’t wait.
