Eternal, Joyful, Selfless, Pure
A Poem
Today’s message, today’s lesson about who we are, what we are, this life — we are
eternal, joyful selfless, pure
my daughter and I held hands, she leaned on me kissed me and hugged me, sitting in Buddha Temple with
snuggles and sacred wisdom, next to her, I am in joy I prayed
let her hear, let her know, let her see herself for
all of these things that she is, that we are, let her be able to make a life for herself that lifts her up and
protects her from suffering, self inflicted or external I hold her tiny hand, 5th grade, 11, nails painted pink and red
and I ache a bit because I can’t feel the eternal in me, in this time of constant worry over fleeting and growing up
I cannot feel the joyful always, I cannot sense the selfless when I am
caught up in the worry and wanting, and I feel less than pure as I struggle with my angers, my fears, so much has gone by
too fast, I miss her face when she was six and I had to start missing her, had to start fighting to be with her, had
to go through immense hurt knowing she was also going through immense hurt
I open my eyes, stop my thoughts — let them pass, let them go we are here, we are here, we are here
together, now, together eternally, mother-daughter, if we settle into it, this moment
each second is cherished, building and building — in the moment every single thing is perfect.
