Essential You Are
This is for all of the Essential Workers everywhere.
Illumination
You are like a bee, that helps to keep the cycle of life flowing,
thus giving, and taking less, to keep us going.

You are like a butterfly, illuminating our world with beautiful colors
Though imperfect, help us to survive and live at all hours.

You are like a sunrise, saving lives while giving warmth and hope to humanity.

You are like water, quenching the thirst for life without conditionality.

You give hope, care, understanding, and love even in distress
You save lives, threatening your own in the process.
You know the danger that you are facing right now
You still take the risk and didn’t bother to ask how
You are the thread that sews new life into our hopelessness
You are the reason our happiness is endless
You are love and appreciated today more than ever
I hope our world will never forget your courage, selflessness
and the strength you have upheld under pressure
This was inspired by the suicide of Dr. Lorna Breen, 49, the medical director of NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital’s emergency department. My two daughters, a Nurse and a Nursing Assistant are in there saving lives at the risk of their own and their families. They aren’t the only ones. None of these health care workers ask Why or How. They were always important to us, now they become vital to our existence. They are the last person your loved one sees before they die. That is a little comfort for some of us. Dr. Lorna Breen gave her life for us. Her suicide should awake more humanity in us and help us to understand what these health care workers are facing and going through daily. Prayers and love to her family and please, I beg, let us never forget her, her sacrifices, and all the others who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us. They are the soldiers fighting an invisible enemy who isn’t afraid of anyone.

Thank you for reading this piece. I hope I have inspired you to give back something, anything to humanity.
