Escape doubt — Start today
Doubt — A brief insight
Tomorrow
In the evening, full of mental energy, you are planning the next day. Telling yourself: “Tomorrow I’ll finally do it.”
The following morning you know what to do, but you still avoid it. It is always the same procedure.
Why does it seem like the right moment to act is not now, but always later?
Why is it that the chosen moment, as soon as it arrives, is again the wrong one?
Why is tomorrow always better than today?
You always make it dependent on external circumstances and conditions that will never occur as imagined. You make excuses to avoid doing the right thing.
Inside you always know what to do. But there’s something holding you back. Too often tomorrow becomes never.
Doubt
A seed of doubt is sown. It is nurtured by the attention you pay to it. It thrives and grows quickly into a small plant. And deeper and deeper this plant called doubt takes its roots. With each time of paying attention, it grows stronger and becomes more deeply rooted.
The side of you that knows that these doubts are unfounded becomes quieter. The resistance falls until the thoughts have overgrown. Then we let it be, we surrender to our worries and give up.
“To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation.”
― Yann Martel, Life of Pi
In moments of inspiration and motivation, the jungle of doubts will clear up. A path reveals itself. We fight our way through the thicket and make progress again. At least for some time.
Slowly the thicket becomes thicker again, we pay attention to the doubts and the motivation ebbs away.
We stop again.
Today
Do not even allow the seed of doubt to flourish. Ignore it.
As soon as you pay attention, doubt robs you of your energy.
“Worrying is like paying a debt you don’t owe”
-Mark Twain.
The most important decision we can make to counteract doubt is to decide. Doubt is nurtured by our thoughts. If we spend a lot of time determining whether a decision should be made, then doubt has many more places to start.
Do it today and achieve more than you ever thought of being possible.
