Summary

"Escanor and Rita" is a tragic love story inspired by the "Seven Deadly Sins" anime, where the celestial body Sol, the Sun, and the mighty warrior Escanor both love Rita, leading to a tale of selfless love, sacrifice, and cosmic transformation.

Abstract

The narrative "Escanor and Rita" unfolds as a poignant tale of love and loss, intertwining the celestial with the mortal. Sol, the Sun, loves Rita deeply but selflessly supports her relationship with the valiant yet darkness-fearing warrior Escanor. To empower Escanor, Sol bestows upon him a portion of their power and a mighty Stellar Axe forged by the Stars. Despite their love for Rita, she marries a nobleman under her parents' pressure, leading to her suffering and eventual demise. Escanor's grief and rage fuel his transformation into a formidable night warrior, and after Rita's tragic death, he pleads with Sol to reignite for the sake of the world and Rita's memory. Sol, moved by Rita's soul waiting in Heaven's vestibule, slowly revives and places Rita's soul into the Stellar Axe. Escanor lives a long life with Rita's presence in the axe, and upon his peaceful death at 108, Sol and the Stars transform them into celestial bodies, a Red Giant and a Red Dwarf, destined to dance in the cosmos until the end of the universe.

Opinions

  • Sol's love for Rita is portrayed as pure and selfless, willing to support her love for another.
  • The narrative suggests that true love can transcend physical form, as evidenced by Rita's soul residing in the Stellar Axe and her eternal connection with Escanor.
  • The story conveys a critique of societal pressures and class distinctions, as Rita's marriage to a nobleman against her true feelings leads to her misery and untimely death.
  • Escanor's character arc reflects personal growth through adversity, transforming from a man afraid of the dark to a mighty warrior fueled by love and protection.
  • The tale implies that love can have a profound impact on the universe, with the transformation of Escanor and Rita into stars symbolizing the enduring nature of their bond.
  • The author seems to suggest that the concept of 'true love' is not a myth but a powerful force that can inspire even celestial beings to act beyond their nature.

Escanor and Rita

A sunkissed poem

Sol loved a girl once, a young maiden with hair like wild, untamed fire her name was Rita and her eyes were like the greenest, moistest pastures eyes that promised Heaven after a bittersweet adventure in Hell

Sol loved her so much that no matter how hot it was no matter where she was, they kissed her gently, to keep her warm and comfortable they never once burned her soft fair skin

Rita loved a man named Escanor he was a strong and powerful man, but he was afraid of the dark Sol’s Love for Rita was a selfless True Love a Love that was equal parts Friendship

They could never envy her love for Escanor but they were a little bit jealous

Sol made Escanor even stronger during the day to compensate for his fear of the night, when he felt cold Rita would not lie in bed with him she could not come to terms with Escanor’s fear of the dark

Sol was sad, because they knew how Escanor felt Escanor was not afraid, he just felt alone, just like Sol they were two kindred spirits who loved the same girl Sol started to imagine living a mortal life via Escanor

He gave him some of his power, made him even more confident and he turned into daylight’s mightiest warrior. Sol summoned their siblings, the other Stars, to forge a mighty weapon for Escanor an unrivaled Stellar Axe forged in the heart of a blue giant

It contained some of the power from all the Stars that heeded Sol’s summon a power Escanor could use at night, though not for long

Rita was impressed; she wanted to wed Escanor but her noble parents did not approve of him because he was a of ‘low birth’ Rita, alas, listened to her parents

After employing some good old-fashioned weeping and crying and an unhealthy dose of “Don’t you love us? We just want your own good!” power and control theatrics Rita yielded and was convinced to marry a nobleman “someone, unlike Escanor, from a good family”

Both Escanor and Sol were devastated was Rita’s love for Escanor not true after all? and what is ‘true love’ anyway? Is it a myth?

Escanor fell into despair; the sky above his city turned cloudy and dark it rained more often; it always rained when Escanor wept for his lost love. He even lost most of his power as Sol wept with him, their surface getting full of dark solar spots

Rita soon started to suffer at the hand of her husband; after they married he changed; he forgo of his noble manners and began to treat Rita as if she was his property rather than a partner

Sol saw all that and got worried. Escanor also found out and began to feel rage about Rita’s predicament

Suddenly Escanor felt more powerful than before he no longer was cold at night because he now had someone he needed to protect

The power of all the Stars glowed through him and his mighty axe, which he named Rita and fire and blinding sunlight raged through his eyes

He was dreadful to even look at during the night; it was as if there was a second Sun wherever he was, as if Sol never set, or when they did Escanor replaced them

Escanor sent word to the nobleman and asked him to release Rita, but he refused; he did not face him alone but sent a small army of 50 men to kill Escanor; 50 of the strongest men of the Kingdom

Escanor defeated them all, with ease too; he did not kill them since he knew they were following orders they could not refuse.

When the nobleman ran out of men to hunt Escanor he turned like a coward to the King for help; he had the King’s ear from time to time of course he told the King half truths and lies claiming that Escanor’s pursue of Rita was unjust but the King decided not to interfere

Rita felt deeply ashamed for yielding to her parents and for having her former love she jilted be her only hope

One day, after a round of beating by the nobleman she finally had enough; she tried to escape but the nobleman’s guards spotted her sneaking out of the castle

The castle was by the Sea, at the side of a deep cliff; the only way she could escape was if she sneaked via the castle’s most hazardous path, over a narrow ledge above the cliff

Alas, when the guards spotted her they shouted to her to stand down this distracted Rita and she fell to her death

Sol was watching at the time but could not interfere when they saw Rita pass their grief and sorrow was so deep that they turned black in their entirety

No-one could explain that, since no solar eclipse was expected “Did the Sun suddenly.. die?” everyone asked “and, if so, what will happen to us?”

Escanor, who by now felt a connection to Sol, felt strong anger mixed with grief after Rita’s passing but he did not want the entire world to die just because she did

So he pleaded to Sol via Rita, his axe he begged them to reignite for Rita’s sake said she would be extremely sad if she found that everyone died because of her

The almost dead from grief Sol listened their last embers of life were still not dead since those were kept alive by their fondest memories of Rita

Sol started to come back to life, slowly their siblings, the other Stars, wept with them and gave Sol a helping hand, fully restoring them

They also took Rita’s gentle soul that was waiting, dormant, in Heaven’s vestibule and placed it inside Rita, the Stellar Axe they forged

From then on Rita’s soul resided inside Escanor’s axe she always kept Escanor warm at night sometimes, when he listened closely, he could hear her whisper words of sweet sadness and Love to him

Escanor lived a long life, and he never lost sight of Rita, not even for a second he passed at 108 years of age and he could still carry her despite its immense weight

Despite her weight Escanor always felt she was light as a feather

Escanor passed on in complete peace, knowing full well that he would be reunited with his True Love, and they would be happy together for all eternity, at a place with no pain and no fear only Bliss and Love

Escanor was buried with his Stellar Axe but Sol and their siblings took both to space they turned them into two new stars Escanor into a Red Giant and Rita into a Red Dwarf

They had Rita’s small star orbit Escanor’s giant star in a tight formation

They would remain like that, dancing in serene bliss until the current universe ended and a new, much brighter one was spawned from it
