Ernio Hernandez’s Morning on a Lake in the Mountains
a scene based on the The Scene & Heard’s prompt

“Good morning, daddy.”
“Shhhh. Mama’s still sleeping, let’s let her rest a little longer. Are you hungry? Have you had breakfast?”
“I’m good.”
“Are you ready for the day? The sun should be coming up soon.”
“I think so.”
“Thank you for coming to visit us. I know you are a busy woman, just like your Mama used to be. She’d still be running around if I hadn’t convinced her it was time to stop moving and settle, now that you are all grown up.”
“I wouldn’t be if it weren’t for you both. And I love visiting you.”
“Well, we always love seeing you, so long as it doesn’t keep you from living your own life. We’re okay, you know.”
“I know.”
“You are doing so great, you don’t need us anymore. But, we’re also here whenever you want. We’re not going anywhere.”
“I love you both. I am living my own life. And you will always be a part of it, no matter how far I go. I will always come back. I love it here. I’m happy you both have found peace.”
“Well, I had that when I found your mother. I lost it a little after you were born, but that righted itself. Whenever you’d fall asleep, I would be at peace. You and your mother safe and calm was my peace.”
“So you liked us most when we were quiet?”
“Hahaha, nonono. I loved you both alive and laughing as well, but that was more my joy.”
“I’m kidding, daddy. Looks like the sun is about to wake mama.”
“She does look as beautiful as the dawn up there.”
“It’s funny how she ended up becoming the mountains and you the lake.”
“She was always built for climbing. Reaching towards the sky but with her feet firmly on the ground.”
“Not you?”
“I was very go-with-the-flow. And just happy to be around her.”
“Well you still are.”
“And that is why I rest in peace.”
