Summary

The article emphasizes the pitfalls of entrepreneurs using social media to project false success, which can lead to a misplaced sense of security and hinder genuine business growth.

Abstract

The article "Entrepreneurs on Social Media Are Out Of Control" critiques the trend of entrepreneurs portraying a successful image on social media, often by showcasing luxury items like Ferraris and private jets, which the author argues is detrimental to their business and reputation. The author, Helen Müller, admits to previously engaging in such behavior but now advocates for a focus on actual business achievements rather than superficial displays of wealth. The piece highlights the dangers of this behavior, including the creation of a false sense of security and the waste of time and energy that could be better spent on building a sustainable business. Müller encourages entrepreneurs to ignore peers who engage in these attention-seeking tactics and instead follow the examples of less ostentatious, yet truly successful business leaders. The article concludes with tips for maintaining awareness of one's intentions and the negative impact of dopamine-driven social media validation, urging entrepreneurs to concentrate on creating real value and solving actual problems.

Entrepreneurs on Social Media Are Out Of Control

Posting to appear successful, gives a false sense of security

I’m guilty of some of the things I am going to mention and I wish I had this wake-up call sooner along my entrepreneurial journey.

Stop the “Monkey See, Monkey Do” on Social Media.

Stop wasting your precious time.

If you are posing next to Ferraris or private jets and your company’s not worth at least 100 million dollars, then really you are just shooting yourself in the foot, and in the long run, this will harm you and your business.

Also, it is very apparent to the bigger fish in the sea exactly how uncalled for this is and your chance of building relationships down the line with these people is slim.

The Dangers Of This Behaviour

What you should look out for:

If you post things to appear successful, you are giving yourself a false sense of security.

I wasted a lot of energy and time at the start of my journey, following what other entrepreneurs do, thinking that it is a way to market yourself.

It sucks you in.

All you do is give yourself an inflated sense of importance.

For example, when you call yourself a CEO on social media, when in fact you have not done anything. You have no real business, no employees and you are not generating profit.

Focus on your business.

Base your success on that which you build instead of the flashy things you buy and the attention you receive on social media.

Once you understand this, you will pursue worthy goals instead of thinking about making a lot of money to fill the insecure void you have.

Also, you will have more time and energy as you will realize that a lot of what you do and consume on social media is a load of nonsense, giving you dopamine releases and poisoning your mind.

Another Important No-No

The big trap

Stop paying attention to other entrepreneurs behaving like this.

They get a lot of attention online.

We assume things about these people when in reality it is not so and you are better off ignoring them.

Unfollow. Remove. Block. Mute.

The entrepreneurs you want to imitate have around 50 views on their YouTube videos. People barely notice them.

Tips For Staying Aware

The importance of your focused intention

1. Focus on enjoying building your business and contributing positively to evolution of your consciousness and humanity as a whole.

2. Be patient — if you know your purpose you will reach your goals.

3. Build something that is worth your time and effort and that contributes to a sustainable future.

4. Get your own house in order first.

5. Question yourself on your intention.

6. Stay aware of the effect of dopamine releases.

Conclusion

If you are an entrepreneur and you don’t realize how detrimental this behavior is to your growth, you will end up in this loop of thinking you are successful at business when in fact you are not.

All the time you waste on social media is better spent on creating real value and solving the problems and removing the mental blocks that will propel you forward.

I made this mistake myself when I started — Don’t let it be you.
