Entrepreneurs: Invest In Real Estate With Only $500
Invest your money in a portfolio filled with dozens of real estate projects

Introduction:
I started investing with Fundrise a little over a year ago. For the past few years, I already invested in the stock market and consistently contributed to my 401k and IRA accounts.
I thought Fundrise was a cool concept — anyone can invest in real estate for $500. I wanted to diversify my investing strategy so I did a small test.
Fast forward a year, I am now an avid supporter of Fundrise. I am in no way affiliated with Fundrise and this is my first-hand experience utilizing the platform for the past year.
What is Fundrise?
Founded by long-time investors with goals to revolutionize the real estate industry, Fundrise is an online platform where everyday people can get started at real estate investing with a one-time $500 deposit.
Fundrise manages your money in a portfolio filled with dozens of carefully, handpicked real estate projects. You are paid in two ways: dividends earnings and appreciation.
Dividends are the portion of the estimated return that are made as cash distributions. Appreciation is the portion of the estimated return that comes from changes in the net asset value (NAV) of the shares presented.

According to the company’s website, historical annual returns for real estate range from 8.7% to 12.4%. When I started my account, I expected my annual rate of return to range from 8–12%. That is pretty impressive given the national interest rate on savings accounts currently averages around 0.09%.
How To Get Started?
The sign-up process was quite easy. First, you pick from the three investment options listed below. Next, you link your bank accounts, review and sign some agreements, and boom… you are now a real estate investor!
The Starter profile is recommended for new investors, while Core and Advanced profiles are for more seasoned investors.
- Starter ($500 — $1,000): This is for starters who want to get into real estate investing. Your portfolio will consist of 5–10 real estate projects. When I created my Fundrise account, I invested $500 with the Starter profile.
- Core ($1,000 — $10,000): This is for more seasoned investors. Your portfolio will consist of 40+ real estate projects.
- Advanced ($10,000+): This is for advanced investors. Your portfolio will consist of 80+ real estate projects.
The Platform:
In the Overview tab, you receive a snapshot of your performance to date. Your account balance, net returns to date, and account level (Starter, Core, or Advanced) are displayed here. I recently upgraded to Core because I was happy with my investment performance (more details to come).

Under the summary sits a newsfeed that shows the performance and updates on your individual real estate investments, newly acquired projects, as well as dividends earned from your real estate investments.

The Performance tab provides year to date returns, annual returns, and total account value. This section is a little more advanced and most likely enjoyed by those who are interested in the financial aspects of your real estate investments.
Next comes the Portfolio tab, which was my favorite section.

This section lists each of your positions, as well as detailed information on each active project. This includes:
- The location of each property
- At least one picture of the property
- The projected rate of return for each property
- The structure of investment: equity or debt
- And Fundrise’s own rating which estimates the relative risk-adjusted return of each real estate asset
In the picture below, I have over 90 active real estate projects in over 10 states.
The images and descriptions of the properties really brought the experience to life. It still shocks me that I have investments in real estate across the United States — all through the power of the internet!

The last tab, titled Transactions, calculates the dividends paid for your investments. Fundrise displays the dividends earned from your real estate portfolio each quarter.

My Experience and Results:
I created my investment account with Fundrise back in May of 2019.
The platform itself is very straight-forward and completely hands-off. I checked my portfolio every few weeks in the beginning, but less after realizing it was unnecessary. The system automatically managed both existing and new projects, as well as reinvested the money I earned back into my projects.
In the beginning, my portfolio consisted of approximately 10 real estate projects. Toward the end of the year, I acquired about 20 additional real estate projects. I was notified via email each time a new property was added to my portfolio.
Now that it has been a full year, I wanted to share the changes to my $500 initial investment.
I received the following payments:
- $28.31 in Dividends
- $17.01 in Appreciation
My net returns to date totaled $44.85, bringing my total investment to $544.85.
After one whole year, my original investment grew by 8.97%!
Takeaways:
Is Fundrise is really the real estate investing platform of the future? I think so. Where else can you get started in real estate investing with only $500 and see such great returns?
I truly believe that Fundrise accomplishes what the company sought out to do in its’ mission statement: to revolutionize real estate investing. With a low barrier to entry, anyone can get started with real estate from the comfort of their own home.
You don’t need to have a large sum of money saved up. You don’t need to have in-depth knowledge of real estate buying or investing. You also don’t have to interact with realtors, brokers, and other professionals involved with the real estate process.
Fundrise is a great way to diversify your investment portfolio for all levels of investors. It is a great alternative to stock investing which tends to be much riskier. Not to mention, the returns from Fundrise beats out most other investing strategies (savings accounts, bonds, and CDs).
How much you will make vary depending on your real estate projects and market trends. The best part of Fundrise is that the platform is not only simple to use but fully hands-off once you have your account set-up.
Who wouldn’t want their investments to grow 8–12% annually with minimal effort?
