We’ve suffered and worked for years trying to please you, despite our tears tirelessly working near and far even after the Civil War

We sing and make great music giving our all in bad or good health you smile and pretend you like us only using us to increase your wealth

We try to support this land showing the world we win Olympic gold when the games are over and cameras off you reflect on history and consider us sold

Our family wants us to get a good education as they weren’t born here but came for us we earn degrees and pay our taxes somehow we are still blamed for coronavirus

Just across the border is where we’re from not all of us are illegal, maybe just some trying to do what’s right to become a citizen while you work us for no compensation

Despite all the rumors past and present it’s been confirmed he’s a legal resident respected by leaders around the world but you still disrespect the first Black President

We’re just trying to show love and peace as we’re tired of the civil unrest listen for once to our concerns so we can stop these protests

When the chips are down all you see is color let us know what it takes for you to improve and recover

It’s a shame we are often the blame we try to get along and play the part but it’s been too long and the burdens are heavy enough already
