Embrace Pursuits that Give You Inward Joy

“Joy is not to be sought outside — it is intrinsic. If you do not mess up your mind, you will naturally be joyful.” - Sadhguru

Namaste, my brothers and sisters!

I welcome you.

May God always bless you and your loved ones with ever-lasting joy.

In this essay, let us take up the profound theme of “Living our lives anchored on inherently joyful pursuits.”

Such joy, by definition, is always focused inward.

To give you the backdrop, let us remember that the tendency of our sensory pleasures is always outward.

For example, our tongues crave delicious food items. Such dishes, however, are located outside our mouths. So, our palates are always hankering outward for their gratification.

Similarly, all other senses crave extrinsic pleasures…unfortunately, such pleasures are always fleeting and leave us with an unending thirst for even more but our craving never ends…the result is all around us!

It is in this context that I am requesting you to deliberately adopt the opposite path toward living life.

I am asking you to consciously embrace one pursuit, that is innately joyful, in your daily life. You will do such pursuit as an end in itself and NOT as a means towards some materialistic end.

To do so, one easy way can be as follows:

  1. Choose one intrinsically blissful pursuit and thereby, anchor your life on a rock-solid foundation. Rest assured, this will pave the way for the entry of even more such happiness into your life in future.
  2. To start with, you can go for this easily doable yet extraordinarily meaningful pursuit: “Immersing oneself in the divine beauty of daily sunset.”
  3. Just find out the exact time of sunset in your area for tomorrow and plan your schedule in advance so that you can take out 15 minutes of time around the sunset moment. Then go out alone, at the appointed hour, to your nearest park with the mobile compulsorily switched off.
  4. Turning your gaze westward and gradually, allow your mind to get freed from all worldly pulls…let it start soaking in the amazing interplay of colours on the western sky…allow your inner child to come out for a moment.
  5. Against this wondrous backdrop, let the beauty of the slowly descending blood-red solar orb fill you with joy that is indescribable! Such joy can only be experienced by your heart!
  6. Just drink the ethereal beauty of the whole spectacle in grateful silence. Let your mind get elevated from the dross of the worldly life for the time being.

Do this joyful pastime for as many days at a stretch as you can and then, see the transformation in your mental outlook towards life.

I assure you that this difference can only be captured by the word “miraculous.”

Just do it.

Thanks for reading my essay.

Blessing you with inward joy,
