According to the life expectancy data for various countries released by the World Bank in 2023, it seems that I’m about to reach the halfway point of my life journey. Of course, I hope to eventually outpace the average.

Coincidentally, this year is the Year of the Dragon in China, and my zodiac sign is also the Dragon. Therefore, this year belongs to my zodiac year. According to superstition, during one’s zodiac year, one should make more changes. I wonder if joining Medium counts as one of them.

Due to work reasons, I basically sit in a chair during the day with very little opportunity for physical activity. After work, I go straight home. I once signed up for a trial class at a gym and found that using some fitness equipment was quite good. Unfortunately, the gym is too far from home, so I had to give up the opportunity to exercise after work every day. So later, I bought an elliptical machine to put at home, so I could exercise for half an hour after work in the evening. Of course, sometimes I slack off.

Therefore, since I want to make some changes, I have decided to sign up for a 50-kilometer hiking event held in our city, which will take place in 10 days and will pass through many scenic rest stations along the way.

I did the math, and if I walk at a speed of 1 m/s, I can cover 3.6 km in an hour. So, for a 50-kilometer journey, it will take approximately 13.8 hours. My goodness, does this mean I’ll only reach the finish line in the evening (if I manage to reach it at all)?

Wish me luck, especially my knees!
