Elon Musk and the White House don’t see eye to eye

The electric carmaker was again left out of a summit gathering with key industry executives, including the CEOs of GM and Ford, to push President Biden’s “Build Back Better” initiative, escalating the billionaire Tesla founder’s animosity with the Biden administration.

Musk was particularly offended by a tweet from Biden’s account that included a video of the president standing with General Motors CEO Mary Barra and declared that “businesses like GM and Ford are developing more electric vehicles here at home than ever before.”

“Biden is behaving like an idiot in front of the American people,” Musk fumed.

Musk also joked that Biden was “a damp [sock] puppet in human form” in another tweet.

The White House has yet to respond to Musk’s remarks.

As part of his budget bill, Biden prioritized investments in electric vehicles and other green energy technology. The “Build Back Better Act” cleared the House but has stuck in the Senate because to opposition from key moderate Democrats including West Virginia’s Joe Manchin and Arizona’s Kyrsten Sinema.

As part of his effort to reduce pollution, the president favors expanding the federal tax credit for electric vehicles.

Since last August, when Tesla, the leading electric vehicle maker, was not invited to the White House’s electric vehicle conference, Musk has become increasingly critical of the Biden administration.

Biden spoke alongside officials from Ford, GM, and Stellantis on his executive order mandating that by 2030, half of all US auto sales be zero-emission vehicles.

When questioned why Tesla wasn’t invited, White House press secretary Jen Psaki pointed out that the three companies in attendance were “the three largest employers of the United Auto Workers,” implying that Tesla was passed over since its hourly workers aren’t unionized.

During an appearance at the Code Conference in California last September, Musk addressed Tesla’s absence from the electric vehicle conference. Tesla was “never mentioned once” by White House officials, according to the billionaire.

“Does that come across as a little skewed or something?” At the time, Musk stated.

“It’s not the friendliest administration,” Musk continued, claiming that Biden’s administration “appears to be controlled by the unions.”

Tesla controls a sizable percentage of the current electric vehicle industry in the United States. In the fiscal year 2021, the firm delivered a total of 936,172 electric vehicles, an increase of 87 percent over the previous year.

Tesla’s fourth-quarter sales of $17.72 billion surpassed Wall Street’s estimates this week.
