Elevate Your Home Office Health: Exploring 5 Essential Investment

Ensuring your home office helps to stay healthy and allows you to do your best work is essential. Here are some investments that can help you accomplish that.

A while ago, I wrote an article about Tips for IT Professions that could be used for those working from home. Since then, I have been working from home and have made many steps towards ensuring my home office was exemplary.

I wanted to create a list of things I have looked into over the last few years and added to my home office. I believe these things are worthwhile investments that everyone should consider.

Adjustable Desk

In my previous article, I mentioned that standing up was helpful. Having an adjustable desk can take this tip to the next level. Giving you the option of standing any time you want and for however long you want. Standing has a lot of health benefits. Mostly it's just much better than sitting for 8 hours a day.

As a side note, if you opt for a standing desk, I would also recommend getting a standing mat; they make standing for extended periods much more comfortable.

Air Quality Monitor

Air Quality seems to be something that many people seem to not think of, but it can be one of the most important. Having a monitor that can provide vital information about the air quality in your home office can be very useful and help identify potential problems. Something that can also monitor carbon dioxide (CO/2) levels is also something I would recommend.

I live in an area where Radon levels can spike very high, so when I was getting an air quality monitor, I had to ensure it could also monitor Radon levels.

Carbon dioxide has been something I have extensively monitored. I noticed higher levels during the afternoon affected my ability to work, where concentration and focus were challenging to maintain.

Air Purifier

An air purifier can help ensure your home office's air quality is good. While it can't solve everything, and its performance is solely based on the kind of air purifier you purchase, it can help if you use your office for other things.

Ergonomic Chair

They say that we spend 1/3 of our entire lives in bed. And because of that, we should not be "cheap" when purchasing a mattress, ensuring it's comfortable and supportive. If true, we must spend close to that in our chair. And we should not "cheap" out when purchasing a chair; ensuring your chair is supportive, comfortable, and not actively damaging your spine is essential.

Plants

Adding plants to your home office can help with air quality and help with adding a bit of nature to your office space, which can make a difference.

Depending on your level of commitment to having plants, you can find some that require almost daily maintenance or can be looked after by watering them only weekly. A good example is the Snake Plant, its use for improving air quality is common and requires very little work.

One warning about plants, if you have pets, ensure that the plants you choose are not dangerous to them, or have them somewhere that pets can't get them.

If you work from home, spend countless hours in your home office. Investing in things that can help ensure you are comfortable and have good air quality is almost always worth it. If you are fortunate, you might even be able to get your company to help pay for them.

If you have any recommendations or items you believe should be on this list. Please comment and let everyone know I would love to hear what others are investing in.
