Elephant Shadows
September Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Shadows”
Our shadows on an elephant’s back
The sun hung low, and the shadows stretched long across the South African savanna. We’d been out for an afternoon safari, looking for an elusive leopard but finding, instead, giraffes, zebras, lion cubs, and of course — elephants!
Elephants, elephants, everywhere…. Baby elephants cavorted through the brush. Momma elephants grazed on brambly brush. We’d even seen a few young male elephants, who tend to congregate after being kicked out of the maternal group once they become “teenagers.”
We suddenly found ourselves in the midst of a group of moms and babies. I looked over to my right, and noticed our shadows draped across this elephant’s side.
It just seemed such an odd site. My husband snapped a quick photo.
How often do you see your own shadow cast upon an elephant? It was a magical moment.
In case you are wondering, I am the second from the left.
