Summary

In "ELEMENTS OF EARTH: EPISODE 1," a story unfolds where love and hate are personified through James and Doveina, two characters defying the natural order by choosing love over their inherent traits of hate and passivity, leading to their exile on Earth.

Abstract

The narrative begins with a philosophical reflection on the duality of love and hate within humanity, suggesting that balance between these elements is a choice. It introduces James, who emerges from a cataclysmic event on Earth, and Doveina, who escapes from a spaceship amidst pursuit. Their reunion on Earth signifies their defiance of societal norms, as they believe their love is a cause worth rebelling for. Despite warnings from Elondra, a figure of authority who considers their union forbidden and a potential catalyst for chaos, James and Doveina seek freedom and balance through their bond. They are aided by Adept, who sympathizes with their struggle against their inherent nature and provides them with a charm to suppress James's hate, acknowledging the bravery in their quest for change.

Opinions

  • Adept's decision to help James and Doveina indicates a belief in redemption and the possibility of changing one's nature, despite the risks involved.
  • The narrative implies that friction and conflict are inherent in life, but it also emphasizes the importance of focusing on positive outcomes, such as freedom and personal growth.

“Love and hate is within us all. Balance is a scale between poison and its antidote, which can be measured with a simple choice to inoculate oneself with either.” -Steven Jackson

Is hate something that will always exist? Is love only a conditional element? What is the endgame? What is the purpose of these two elements in the long run? There are elements on Earth that bind us all. No matter the background, no matter the culture, or physical differences. There are similar traits that everyone shares. You can also find suns or planets that have things in common.

We also know for sure that some perfect element, some effect, or random circumstance created us.

For many years we have tried to explain the event or higher power that granted us life.

From that very phenomenon…

Embers fall from the sky like sparks…

Streaks of light fall at an enormous speed as they slam into the ground. Smoke and dust particles fly into the air after the impact.

As the dust clears…

A chiseled man emerges from the rubble. His name is James.

Amongst the stars, a softly curved woman named Doveina runs through corridors of a spaceship. Guards are fast in pursuit. She enters a connected pod and seals the entrance. Elondra, a woman built of brawn pleads on the other side…

“Doveina no!”

Doveina primes the controls, disconnects her pod from the spaceship, and pilots past several planets.

Exiting hyper-speed, Doveina reaches planet Earth. Gravity takes hold upon her descent. She powers down the controls and lands on green soil.

Engraved footprints aim forward on the horizon as Doveina follows multiple tracks.

Steam rises toward the heavens while James sits within a hollow space thought to have once sustained a pond.

Drenched in sweat, James nods with disbelief. “You shouldn’t have come.”

Doveina places her hand on James’ cheek. “Nothing will keep us apart.”

“Love and hate are complete opposites.”

“Opposites attract,” Doveina replied.

“This is serious Doveina, we have defied the natural order of things.”

“I cannot see a greater cause to rebel,” Doveina retorted.

“Then you are a fool.”

“So what if they think you’re not redeemable! We’re just supposed to give up?”

“Rules are based on balance. I feel nothing but hate,” James exclaimed.

“We are each other’s balance. You remind me not to be passive or complacent. I remind you that compassion is not a weakness,” Doveina explained.

“This place will be our demise.”

“We were made from friction. Friction is unavoidable in everyday life. Try to focus on the positive James, we are free.”

Doveina helps James to his feet. “Now let’s go before we draw onlookers.”

Back on the spaceship, unarmed soldiers follow Elondra through the corridor where Doveina was first pursued.

“Are we going to pursue them?” A soldier asked.

“There’s no point, her fate is sealed. If you follow a fool, then you bear the title of one. Whatever happens to them now is their own doing. Consider it collateral damage!” Elondra replied.

“What about the people of Earth?”

“What about them?” Elondra replied nonchalantly.

“Their union is forbidden and it will have grave consequences on innocent lives.”

“No one is innocent. With all the sin that transpires down there, they are due for a reckoning.” Elondra concluded.

Back on Earth, James and Doveina are sitting beside each other within an alley. “He should be here any moment,” Doveina said.

“We have no means to provide currency,” James mentioned.

“Leave that part to me,” Doveina replied.

“It is forbidden to use your power for personal reasons.”

“The situation is dire! You’re burning up and we need a place to lay low.”

“What about the other souls that were banished? We’ll just leave them be while attempting to mend our wounds?” James asked.

“We’ll worry about that later. We all know what happens if your hate grows. It would be hell for everyone.”

“You’re still vulnerable nonetheless. Remember that,” James said.

An elderly man carrying the name of Adept appears before them while sporting a trench coat. “You rang?”

“We need your blessing,” Doveina said.

“Obviously,” Adept replied.

Adept gives Doveina a charm. “This will suppress his power but make him vulnerable to the abilities of the fallen. You must always keep it with you to contain his rage.”

“Why have you agreed to help us,” James asked.

“I have been known to be guilty of rebellion. I was young once and it would be hypocritical to speak otherwise. I consider you to be brave while attempting to change the traits you were born with. Hate is all you’ve ever known. Love is your new experience.”
