Key Elements Of A Compelling Headline
Whether you’re telling a story or selling a service, learn how to grab your readers’ attention and make them stay!

Headlines are what grab people’s attention. The content of your story, article, or letter may be well-thought-out, but without a compelling headline, no one is going to read what you have to say.
The sales headline is a vital part of any sales letter. Even if you have the best testimonials and income statements, your visitors can not be convinced if your sales headline does not compel them to read further. For that reason, you must learn how to write a good sales headline.
The following are elements you should consider when writing a sales headline.
Powerfully Evocative Words
For your headlines to grab the reader’s attention, you need to include various psychological triggers. Psychological triggers are words that stir up emotions. Love, fear, loss, and a sense of belonging are examples of powerful emotions.
They are also the underlying motivations behind FOMO — the fear of missing out. We all need to feel like we belong. And we instinctively act on anything that threatens that.
A headline that voices that need are sure to grab any reader’s attention. One such as, “Don’t miss out on this offer.” “Limited time only.” “Hear what everyone’s saying about our ….”
As readers, we are more likely to continue reading something if the headline emotionally resonates with something we experienced. Such as, “Getting over a breakup ….”
Add Concept Hooks
While on the one hand, we all have a Fear of Missing Out, on the other hand, we are enticed by shiny objects that are unique, novel, and set us apart from others; the “exclusive offer….”
In addition to the psychological triggers, another element for a compelling headline is to include an angle that makes you unique.
This is called a concept hook. For example, if your product or story has specific features and no other seller or storyteller has them, add them to your headline.
You may write something mysterious or make a bold calm. This will entice your customers to read more, if only to find out that you were serious. But do ensure that your headline matches up with the rest of your sales letter.
Problem Solve
People read when they feel that the article, newsletter, or product resonates emotionally and promises to resolve their problems. We all seek happy endings, whether we know it or not.
Before writing your headline, make a list of all the problems that face your customer or reader that your service, product, or story can address. And find a way to add it to your headline.
Bringing It All Together
In summary, writing attention-grabbing headlines takes practice. For effective headline use, words that stir up emotions add a hook that sets you apart and offers a solution to a problem.
Finally, remember to test it before you launch it. Write three different headlines and ask for feedback from friends and family to determine which ones grab their attention.
