“The element of our existence.”

The first word that came to mind with this prompt was excitement.

Excitement is an element in my life that fuels day-to-day routine towards purpose, towards existence itself.

When I wake up in the morning I feel excited for the day ahead.

The possibilities are abundant and the mystery of the unknown excites me.

I haven’t always felt this way. I used to be scared and fearful of what may happen when I got up in the morning. Always jumping to the worst-case scenario, my mind filled with worries.

I have and am working hard to shift my mindset. I realized the time I spent worrying and ruminating could instead be spent being curious, feeling excited, and grateful.

I want to enjoy the present as much as I can.

It’s the little things in life that excite me.

Two birds flying overhead. Noticing a new flower blooming in the garden. The first sip of coffee in the morning. The feeling of a hot shower after a hard day’s work. Some delicious food. The list goes on and on.

Often I feel excited simply about being alive.

I get excited about the small things in life and I love that this element carries through to all areas of my life.

I used to feel put off by expressing my excitement outwardly too much because people often gave me the feedback that it was odd. I remember learning to hide my happiness and excitement to seem more socially appropriate and cool.

I care a lot less about that now, and laugh, smile, and express my excitement when I want to. It may look goofy or childlike but I don’t mind.

The excitement lies in the exploration of the world around us. — Jim Peebles
