Elder-Care Home’s Caregiver

How loved ones are at the mercy of staff members.

The elderly are being preyed upon from many angles. Lots of them have fallen prey to scam callers and given over large sums of money if not their life savings. I have seen how these scam callers operate up close and personal. Most scam callers use the story of a loved one being in need of money due to some emergency mishap. The scam callers make the story practically, a life-or-death situation to make the victim act quickly. The scam callers usually operate on the victims’ emotions in order for them to trust the scam caller.

The more the victim listens to the scam caller, the more power is exerted to get the victim to act accordingly. Before the victims realize what has happened many have lost monies that are oftentimes not replaceable. These call scammers could be located anywhere in the world. Once they get their victims’ dollars they practically disappear into thin air on to their next victim. The key is to hang up the phone and verify the scammers’ call or call 911.

At an age when the elderly should be allowed to spend their later years in life with peace and solitude, many find themselves being scammed, and/or abused by family members, neighbors, associates, and workers at eldercare facilities.

Also, we have heard horror stories in nursing homes and other elderly caregivers facilities where patients or abused and misused. No ethnicity is immune from such harsh care by the hands of ruthless and heartless caregivers. Not too long ago, one caregiver was charged with abusing a female patient who had Alzheimer’s. Apparently, a staff member discovered that a male caregiver was having oral sex with an elderly female who had some form of dementia.

Recently a staffer, Jianchun Li, was jailed for the deaths of two elder women, ages 75 and 83, under his care in Diamond Bar. Happy Home Care for the Elderly is an assisted-living facility with a four-bedroom suburban home. Monica Lee, 75, and Hee Sook Park, 83 were found dead at the scene by paramedics who attempted to provide aid.

The live-in caretaker, Jianchun Li, 40, has since been booked on suspicion of killing both ladies. He is being held in county jail in lieu of a $4-million bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Pomona Courthouse.

Happy Home Care pride itself on providing its six residents a homelike environment with well-trained staff to look after the loved ones of many. Four residents at the home have not been harmed as Lee and Park were found dead at the facility.

In conclusion, when giving one’s loved ones over to an elderly care facility no matter how perfect they seem, the environment needs transparency and accountability. The elderly patients’ families have to be their loved one’s advocates because they can no longer advocate for themselves. No matter how perfect on the outside and the inside, the facility must be monitored from every angle of care starting with the caregiver.
