Eight sneaky habits to beat that will take you to the next level

Over the years my brain has done a lot of ruminating — working overtime by shuffling creative and worrying thoughts.

Many times it made me feel exhausted and alienated.

I learned that it only needs a light bulb moment to realize things about yourself that you better change for your own good.

You just have to make sure that the light bulb keeps shining at the right moments — on things that are essential for you.

You’ve got a choice

Of course, you’re not going to choose if you don’t realize you’ve got a choice to make.

But you do know when something doesn’t feel right — and it takes the fun out of things, right?

A lot of hidden societal norms pull your strings and influence the way you act and how you make your decisions.

You need to find out what it is and make a choice on how you’re going to deal with it.

You think you’re shaping your life

You might be working on shaping your future — but don’t go about it blindly.

Check whether these goals, dreams, and wishes aren’t merely a remix of what you used to want — or what somebody wants for you.

Giving your life shape and meaning according to how you want it, takes time.

So therefore take time to rethink and doublecheck whether you’re working on something you really want.

You’re playing hide and seek

I’m sure you’ve heard about living in the moment.

You don’t have to be a mindfulness expert to stay in the moment at times you’re thoughts are going off on one.

Just stop looking at unexpected or irrelevant places whenever you’re looking for a solution or an answer.

Shine some different shades from your light bulb on the situation at hand and you will figure out a way to go about it.

You’re looking for the finish line

Are you constantly measuring your life by how ‘finished’ it is?

Life’s not a checklist; it’s more like a never-ending road trip.

Everything’s temporary, even that elusive ‘arriving’ moment you’re chasing.

It’s best if you savor the journey instead of fixating on crossing the finish line.

You feel fear and pain

Are you scared to follow your dreams?

Ever asked yourself why?

Remind yourself that this fear is the spice of life ahead of you — not the burned toast from your past.

Take your fear as a compass pointing towards what truly matters.

Challenging?

Absolutely!

It’s the only way to deal with your doubts and keep on heading in the right direction.

You’re avoiding what you need

Take it from an experienced avoider and cut the distractions — your life’s waiting.

The real issue here?

Your mindset.

It’s a deeply hidden thought that you don’t deserve to get what you need.

In fact, you don’t even feel in need of anything — so you keep telling yourself.

You’re just picking up breadcrumbs that people leave along the way — in real life and on the internet.

It’s time to drop the act and show up as the real, imperfect, fantastic you.

And while you’re at it, set yourself a ‘home-is-where-the-heart is’ kind of goal — to make it tailor-made for you.

Your life sounds like a broken record

Stop playing those bad memories in your mind.

Don’t let them define you.

Select your memories thoughtfully that fuel your now and your future- and leave the rest behind.

The bad ones will fade if you don’t keep playing them over and over again in your head.

Create some new playlists, at least one with good oldies, and one with just-released.

You’re mad at someone and not sure why

It’s probably you.

Ding ding ding

Time for some self-reflection, my friend.

Those traits you can’t stand in others?

They’re not their problem — they’re parts of you begging for acknowledgment.

Or..

You ignored those red flags from others and you’re disappointed in yourself because you did. (one of my biggest flaws so far…)

Whichever way you look at it, give yourself the chance to deal with it and turn it around.

Stop being angry, be happy for another life lesson.

After reading this are you feeling the itch for change?

Changing your life isn’t just about switching up your thoughts.

It’s about diving headfirst into experiences that shake you up, wake you up, and make you feel alive.

By the way, if you’re inclined towards self-reflection, I have a collection of downloadable journals. They’re designed to help you reflect without directing your thoughts. It’s an open invitation to delve into your inner reflections at your own speed. Here’s how you get there.

Do you want to become mentally stronger, live intentionally and be yourself — unapologetically?
