Eight Simple Ways You Can Look And Feel Good Instantly
It’s simplicity that is key to lasting happiness and joy
The thoughts that run through your mind, right from the moment you wake up — can impact your entire day.
Do you have days where you feel a lot more positive than others?
Yesterday was that day for me. I just felt good, and I didn’t know why.
There are times I catch myself thinking the right and wrong things.
Usually, I don’t — they run automatically.
A positive outlook can create a fantastic day filled with creativity and clarity — attracting opportunities that will further accelerate your career and life.
Have you worked out what makes your day more positive?
Perhaps it starts with meditation in the morning, walking your dog or some exercise?
For some, it could be a lovely sleep in.
If you are still questioning what might help you create a positive outlook for the day, here are some great ideas to get you started.
One: Get out in nature daily
Sunshine, fresh air and the great outdoors are among the most crucial mood lifters you will ever encounter.
You can instantly change your mood by inhaling fresh air while closing your eyes, allowing the sunshine to penetrate your skin.
A few short minutes of sitting in a park provides many mental health benefits.
So, if you are experiencing a creative block or are feeling somewhat overwhelmed, I urge you to take a break and head to a park (or somewhere with a lot of trees or water).
Two: Lift heavyweights
Lifting weights builds a strong mindset and increases self-belief.
It’s such a great feeling as you lift heavier weights and become stronger.
Then, slowly, your body shape begins to change.
Those changes came about because of your grit and determination to keep going.
I believe weight training is as essential as eating well. It’s a form of soul health for your physical body.
I do understand that for many people, running provides this feeling.
Whenever you get that same feeling, it’s essential to keep doing what you love, what makes you feel good.
We don’t do enough of what makes us feel good.
Take on an exercise that best suits your personality and lifestyle.
Three: Walk daily
No matter your fitness level, walking is the most straightforward and mood-altering meditation you can do every day.
Walking is a low impact exercise for any age group — and a great way to recovery from surgery.
I spent a lot of time walking at a slower pace to increase my post-surgery recovery, and it helped me both physically and mentally.
In my neighbourhood, I see a lot of older individuals getting outdoors for a walk. It’s a beautiful way for them to stay active and increase mobility.
I look forward to my daily walks and indulge in a little more over the weekends (much to my dog’s delight!)
Try to incorporate walking to and from work and throughout your lunch break. Those moments you spend on your own make a difference.
Use that time to zone out, to listen to music or an audiobook.
Four: Eat wholesome, nourishing foods
Feed your mind, body, and soul with fantastic food.
We all know that processed and sugar-filled snacks don’t do anything for us, apart from increasing disease, body weight and making us feel terrible after a couple of hours.
Long-term indulgence in junk foods will not help us experience good health and well-being.
Suffering from energy slumps daily can be a drag. It diminishes your productivity and affects your mood.
Indulging in a treat a couple of times a week is only natural.
But when those treats extend to eating them daily, we become conditioned to resort to a food source for comfort — when all we need is to pay more attention to the food we eat and perhaps get some more rest.
When we eat protein, good fats, and complex carbohydrates, we regulate our hormones and appetite and allow for sustained energy during the day ahead.
We should aim to perform at our best, especially if we want to live an extraordinary life.
Five: Engage in positive relationships with others
Leading an extraordinary life that’s joyful means being around people who love, support, and care about you.
We’ve all had the displeasure of mixing amongst those whose main aim is to bring us down.
It can be damaging to our self-esteem.
We wall want to be loved and accepted by our tribe, and when this is a constant battle, it will lead to stress, anxiety, and depression.
Do yourself a favour and say goodbye to anyone that doesn’t make you feel good.
It might be a matter of dismissing a so-called friend or working in a different department.
It’s never ok to put up with this at the expense of sacrificing your mental health and well-being.
Quality of life should be on top of your list, and all these little things add up to cause us great harm.
Being around loving and supportive people will help you soar a lot higher.
Six: Do something nice for another person
Everyone gets a buzz from doing something meaningful, kind, and loving to another person.
Imagine how that person will feel when they receive kindness and praise?
It will help elevate their self-esteem.
I don’t believe we do enough to make others feel good about themselves — especially when they have done something wonderful and kind.
It’s time we started to praise people more for their excellent qualities instead of focusing on the negative ones so much.
Seven: Laugh with more people
Get out with friends and family members, even strangers, and indulge in a good laugh.
Laughter puts us in a positive state and helps us enjoy life more.
If you can’t be around people all the time, what about listening to some online comedy shows or following someone that makes you laugh?
It doesn’t matter how you increase your laughter- what matters is that you feel joy and have a little bit of fun.
Eight: Sleep and stay hydrated
Sleep is paramount if you want health and happiness.
Lack of sleep elevates cortisol, making you more susceptible to health issues and increasing your chances of overeating.
Your quality of life can be significantly affected by lack of sleep.
Mothers with newborns will know this all too well!
Yes, you can survive a night or two without sleep, but months or years are damaging to your health — not to mention your training efforts.
Hydration is essential, and generally, people are just not drinking enough water.
Keep it simple by drinking a glass of water every hour — more so in the summer months or if you are exercising.
I like to drink one litre before and during training.
Dehydration can bring on lethargy and decrease your performance.
Key Take away
It doesn’t take a lot of effort to feel good.
But, once you know what works and keep doing it, that accumulates to added points fowards your joy factor.
Perhaps that’s why I felt happy.
The reason is in the back end — all the mindset, self-love, and minor tasks I do daily that increase my level of happiness.
Perhaps that’s the secret to feeling good daily — permitting ourselves to do the things we love — without guilt.
