Don’t Force a Turd that Won’t Come

On patience…

If only people would spend as much time working toward their goals as they do on the toilet, trying to force a turd that won’t come.

You know what I do?

I give it…I don’t know…one minute.

Just one.

If that piece of shit doesn’t come (no pun intended), I pack up shop and keep it moving.

Let this apply to your life, too.

On Patience

I’ve unpacked patience a little before, but this is another…slightly different take.

There are two sides to everything. There’s nuance to everything. There are two paradoxical ideas to everything that can run together, simultaneously.

Nothing is black and white.

It’s gray.

Hence, as I once wrote that article on quitting and being patient enough before you decide to quit something, here’s a short one on when to not be patient...ish.

Stop Forcing Turds

You shit too much. We all do. The amount of shit that our bodies have accumulated over the years until our death is…gross.

But you have to shit to move on in this life. You have to get that shit out there, in order to get to the good stuff.

The kicker? You will still shit. Even then.

And on a side note, remember that any “idol” you look up to shits, just like you. And speaking of idols, as David Goggins says, they will let you down. Be your own idol.

But back to what I was saying:

You have to shit to get to the good stuff, and even then you will still shit, forever.

Yet, sometimes we can be…too patient.

Sometimes we stick with something for so long that it reaches the point of insanity because we haven’t pivoted to try a different approach.

Sometimes we sit on the toilet for too long.

We’ll sit there until our legs fall asleep and it’s hard to get up, with nothing to show for it, forcing turds (or even just one!) that never came.

What a…waste (pun intended this time).

Stop forcing turds.

Often you’ll find that you have to leave and shit later. Go do something else. Take a break. Come back to it with an open mind (and maybe after some coffee or water).

Metaphors…

All of these turd metaphors are metaphors for life.

Sometimes you have to be patient enough to tough it out, yes, but sometimes you’ve been too patient and are wasting your time.

That doesn’t mean quit, though.

With our dreams, it often doesn’t. Sometimes it means that our “breakthrough” won’t come out just yet. Sometimes it means we need a different approach.

We have to try again later and come back with a different mindset.

But it will come, only if you keep at it.

But don’t…force it.

It doesn’t do you any good. Have the faith to see it through to the end, but not yet. Not in that exact moment.

Maybe sometimes you are indeed able to force it out and get results, but how good were those results, anyway?

Could you say you were…proud of those results?

Could you say you liked the person you became down in there? Trying to get that shit out?

Now, this doesn’t all mean that you should “take things slowly” and not work as hard at all.

If that’s what you got from this then either I didn’t do my job correctly or you‘ve missed the point, pal.

The point is:

Tough it out, but don’t…at the same time.

Move with urgency and triviality.

Sound hard? It is.

Turds can be hard after all, but they can also be soft.

See what I meant about the whole “life is paradoxical thing”?

No one can do this for you. You have to examine where things are and make a decision that you will accept, no matter the consequences.

Everyone’s too busy with their own shit after all.
