Earning my First Pennies on Medium!
How much did I make in my first month on Medium?
Writing on Medium in the last month has been an opportunity to reflect on life and a wonderful way to express my thoughts and feelings.
As you probably know already, it is also possible to earn money too! Some people say it’s like “YouTube for writers.”
Now what you’re all wondering is, how much did I make?!
Starting off on Medium
To get to some numbers:
The first article I wrote was published on the 13th of February, 2023.
To be fair, it took me a while to write that article because I was still recovering from the surgery and was quite slow.
Medium pays by reading time. So it’s important to have lots of followers and people that genuinely like reading your content.
As you can see by the statistics, it’s showing me 585 views in the last 30 days, which for me is a lot!
As you can also see below, there are several peaks, which were mainly when I published a new article or shortly thereafter.
However, these views include all views, even comments, etc.
There were far fewer people that actually read my articles:
Joining the Medium Partner Program
To earn money, it is necessary to join the Medium Partner Program.
To join the Medium Partner Program, you must have at least 100 followers and one published article.

On the 1st of March, 2023, I was finally accepted to the Partner Program. It took two business days for my application to get approved.
So, from publishing my first article to getting accepted into the Partner Program, it took me almost two and a half weeks.
And now, finally, let’s look at the earnings to date (9th of March 2023) — a month after I made my Medium account and a little more than a week after getting accepted into the Partner Program.
Earnings
In total, I have published five articles (this is number six), and I know that many writers have published far more articles, however, to continue writing with passion and not simply to publish articles, it was the speed at which I was happy.
From those five, I monetized three of them.
Meaning: making them “members only” — which is the only way to earn money through the Partner Program.
Here are the earnings from those three articles:
14 cents!
Woohoooo!!!
Never in my life have I ever been so happy about 14 cents!
Although it’s only 14 cents, simply seeing a number >$0.00 made me so unbelievably happy that I immediately called my mom!
It’s the small things in life that make a difference.
I hope to earn a little more soon and would be thankful to anyone who takes the time to read one of my articles!
