Back to our story, YouTube shows ads on the videos that you upload sometimes at the beginning, and sometimes in the middle, or at the end of your videos. That takes place once you reach 1000 hours of watch time, and a thousand subscribers as a new YouTube channel. Then you can join What’s called the YouTube Partner program.

After that point, YouTube will pay you a cut of the revenue they make from ads, and that’s what we’re going to be talking about in this article.

How much can you make on YouTube? I did some research into dozens of people who’ve uploaded videos talking about how much money they make per thousand views. and the answer is that some channels make between $1 and $30 per thousand views.

So the average Channel based on my research makes $15.50 per thousand views, but with that being said, most channels based on my research only get around $5 to $10 per thousand views.

To make more money per thousand views you can do a couple of things, first of all, you can create a channel in what’s called a high RPM Niche.

RPM is how much you actually make per thousand views. and depending on the niche that you’re in, some advertisers pay more money to put ads on videos than others.

For example, apple is one of the top advertisers on YouTube and they’re likely going to be putting their ads on technology videos.

Expedia is another one of the top advertisers and they’re likely going to be putting their ads on travel videos. You got the point!

Now here’s a list of some of the highest CPM niches on YouTube in 2024:

  • Finance
  • Making Money Online
  • Technology
  • Health & Fitness
  • Investing
  • Travel
  • Makeup
  • Marketing
  • Real Estate
  • Car Movies, and
  • DIY & Tutorials

Also, to avoid any confusion about what are CPM and RPM?

  • CPM is the Cost Per Mille; The cost per 1000 ad impressions before YouTube revenue share. It is essentially the cost an advertiser will pay YouTube for every 1,000 impressions or views their ad receives on YouTube.
  • While RPM is the Revenue Per Mille; It represents how much money a YouTuber earns per 1,000 video views.

With that being said, some channels in the lower CPM niches can get more overall views as well.

Some examples of low CPM niches that can get high overall views include:

  • Pranks
  • Scary Videos
  • Gaming Videos, depending on the game that you’re playing.

Another way to make more money per thousand views is to create videos longer than eight minutes. You can put multiple different ad breaks throughout your video since it’s longer than eight minutes. You can add up to four ad breaks instead of just one if the video is shorter than eight minutes.

I also recommend spacing out your ad breaks to at least every couple minutes, so it doesn’t interrupt the viewing experience.

In addition, don’t just make videos for the sake of them being long enough so you can put multiple ad breaks, because that can also hurt you if you make long videos without actually providing value.

So if you make a longer video, make sure to only make it longer by providing more value to the end viewer, and remember value can be either educational or entertaining, and keep in mind videos at every length can go viral.

Now I can tell you about a little trick that can make your YouTube channel make over $200 per thousand views. You can be saying now this is impossible based on the figures I just gave you at the beginning. But that is possible through selling digital products with your channel like Online Courses, ebooks, etc.

Selling those types of digital products on your channel can multiply what you earn from YouTube ad Revenue by 5 to 7 folds.

There are many different digital product ideas that you can sell from your channel. I can help you with one of those ideas, which is how to build Online Courses, I have a series of articles about that, which takes you on a step-by-step journey for creating an online course that can bring you back good money. Please check that series below if you would like to go that route:

So let’s break down how much money one successful YouTube channel can earn per month.

I’m using an extension called Vid IQ to see how many views per month the YouTube channels can get. As an example, one YouTube channel that uploads scary videos, they are getting around 6.5 million views per month. now if we do the math, and divide that number by 1000 views, then multiply it by the average RPM, which can be around $3 per 1000 views since that video category is falling in a low CPM niche, we will be looking at an average of $20,000 per month.

Another example is a channel that uploads videos about investing and other videos related to finance. They’re getting 1.9 million views per month. So, if we do that same calculation where we take this figure, divide it by a thousand, then multiply the outcome by their CPM, which I would estimate to be around $20-$30 per thousand views. That is because investing and making money online are in a high CPM Niche. So let’s say twenty dollars per thousand views, that means this channel will be making an average of $39,000 per month, and that’s just from ad Revenue, not counting if they are selling any digital products.

Also, just to be honest, those are examples of successful YouTube channels. But here’s a general range for estimated earnings based on views:

  • Low View Count (Under 10,000)/video: Earnings might be minimal or non-existent due to low ad impressions.
  • Medium View Count (10,000–50,000)/video: Estimated range of $50 to $250 per video based on average CPMs.
  • High View Count (Over 50,000)/video: Potential earnings $250+ per video, with top creators earning significantly more through combined monetization methods.

Also, keep in mind that those videos are your Digital Assets, which can keep generating Passive Income for a long time!!

So if you want to make good money on YouTube in 2024, it is really possible, you just need to put the work!! All the Best!!
