Dynamics Of Colours Of Joy
How a color tag adds or deducts and affects our lives
Last week I went to Vrindavan near Mathura to visit the famous Lord Krishna Banke Bihari temple. Holi begins over there much before the actual Holi festival celebrated with much fanfare in India.
In the temple, they distributed white with traces of yellow flowers to everyone. This is an Indian flower named Tesu and it stands for purity. The organic colors were made out of flowers and plants such as roses, Neem, beetroot, and many others. We could distinctly see white, light yellow, red, green, and purple colors.
The color was being poured and splashed like a light drizzle on the visitors from water guns. This was splashed with the emotion of joy. It actually felt like a breezy, cool, and light spell of rain.
The pandit (Indian Preist)was narrating the mythology of Holi. The word Holi is from Holika who was the sister of demon King Hiranyakashyapu.
The legend states that Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, and was born to King Hiranyakashyapu. Prahlad’s own father tried to kill him several times, as he did not like his devotion to Lord Vishnu, but he escaped unhurt each time a plot was made to kill him.
After many unsuccessful plots, the demon king asked his sister, Holika, to help him to kill Prahlad because she had a boon by Lord Brahma that she would not be burnt in a fire.
Holika had a shawl that would protect her from the flames of a fire. Holika took Prahlad on her lap and the two were set on fire. Prahlad chanted the name of Lord Vishnu constantly and when the fire became intense, a strong wind blew and removed the shawl from Holika and covered Prahlad, and Holika bereft of the shawl fell and got burnt in the flames.
The mythology brought out the philosophy of the victory of good over evil. The evening before the actual Holi festival people have bonfires celebrating the end of Holika with the philosophy that the end comes due to ego, lust, greed, anger, and jealousy.
The second legend is that Kansa the tyrant ruler of the Vrishni kingdom with its capital at Mathura. had been prophesied that his end would come by his nephew Lord Krishna. Kansa sent a woman Putna to kill Krishna by feeding him poisonous milk. Krishna sucked the milk and also her blood and so she ran to get saved and fell in the flames and died.
Holi is now celebrated not only in India but the world over as a sign of victory of good over evil.
Why is Holi celebrated with color? What are its dynamics?
Mathura, the abode of Krishna The legend goes that Krishna was dark and Radha was fair. He had an inferiority complex. So his mother advised him to paint his face so that his skin color would not be seen.
Now it is celebrated by thousands of people throwing the color around and getting covered in different colors.
Color me pink, white, yellow, orange. In India, we have this concoction of colors on Holi. Holi is very joyful.
What are the dynamics of color?
The same colors of joy have a history of complexion. The black's and the white’s story is age-old. The inferiority complex because Lord Krishna was dark he singled himself and changed his color.
There are many dynamics of colors
Blue and pink color tag We tag certain labels of colors. Blue is for boys and pink is for girls. Why this tag? Rooms are decorated in pink when girls are born and girls are supposed to wear pink or red color clothes but parents conventionally make their son’s wear blue color.
Black and White color tag: Racial Black people, brown people, and white. The white complexion is always given preference be it any country.
Most countries did not have a black model for many years. Only now people with black skin are considered to be beautiful models.
George Floyd was killed in the USA by three policemen because he was Black and there was a racial problem.
Now Asian’s are also being targeted as they are brown and different from white-skinned people. The man who police say went on a rampage at three spas in the Atlanta area has been charged with eight counts of murder of Asians in connection with the attack on browns.
Balck and white color tag at occasions Color tags are attached to weddings in the western world where the bride wears a white gown when she gets married.
In India, white is worn at a death ceremony. All widows in India are supposed to wear white color clothes. Yet, white is also tuned with purity.
Brides in India are supposed to wear pink, red, orange colors on their wedding day.
In the western world, the death ceremony people wear black whereas in India they only wear white.
Muslims wear a black color long dress (Burqa) to cover themselves every day.
Conclusion
The colors of joy even in mythology are blemished, have tags and dynamics of their own. The world plays Holi with colors of joy. It is the win of the good over the evil. How many people understand the dynamics and what plays under these colors? Why do we have these black and white tags, blue and pink colors? While we celebrate Holi with colors of joy, a peep in the dynamics of colors would be a great idea to ponder about.
