FOR DENNETT

Ducks for Dennett

Photos from a few minutes of birdwatching around a pond

My challenge to you is that you all write a piece for Dennett, something especially for her and Captain Argentina. A poem, a story, a photo, a drawing… Louise Peacock

I stopped at a small wetland on my way home from a computer tutoring appointment. A few minutes of birdwatching would be fun, and I was going to be driving right past the parking lot anyway.

I saw mostly Mallards and American Coots. Some of the ducks in my photos reminded me of the photos that Dennett has been taking as she walks her dog, Syau around a small lake that’s near where she lives in Florida.

Dennett shares photos of all kinds of ducks, herons, hawks, other birds, and a variety of wildlife. It was her love of nature that drew me to her publication shortly after I joined Medium in the fall of 2020.

The American Coot in the photo above is eating something green, in the pond. I didn’t include the surrounding trees in this photo, but you can see the autumn colors reflecting in the water.

I watched this small group of female Mallards for a few minutes. They must have found something they liked because they started “dabbling,” diving down into the shallow water so only their hind ends were visible.

Dennett, I wanted to let you know that your hard work and dedication is appreciated. You are a very supportive editor and your comments are always meaningful, which I love. You genuinely care about your writing community. It shows in your writing and in your comments and replies.

I hope things get better for you and Captain Argentina soon. Hugs, prayers, and happy thoughts from Northern Nevada. I’m glad that you have Louise Peacock helping you with your publication until you can come back.
