It’s not for kids

I was looking at my Medium stats and I noticed that I was getting referrals from DuckDuckGo.

I was vaguely aware of DuckDuckGo. I knew that it was a search engine, with a cute cartoon character icon, a search engine for children or so I assumed.

So why was it turning up in my stats? Was there something that was attracting children to my stories on Medium?

Upon investigation I discovered that it was in fact a search engine alternative to Google.

If you go to settings on the chrome browser there is a list of default search engines that you could use they include:

Google, Bing, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo.

A google search and and a search on DuckDuckGo are similar in content. They are however organized differently. Google features images and you tube videos by default while on DDG you can search by image or video by preference however text is the default.
