Driving The Narrative — Driving Fear in ‘The Movie Theater’
Just two of billions of reasons why I need the old entertainment back!
Photo by Jake Hills on Unsplash
Indian in The Cupboard was one of my favorite movies!!!!!
OH…..& Stand by Me, Home Alones, The Little Rascals, The Borrowers, & 101 Dalmatians!!!
Fuck, I could go on & on & on with all those goodies from the VHS days!
Alright let’s get to this Shindig I wrote specifically for the ones who clicked on it! ha.
Please comment if you feel the need to, I don’t bite.
The entertainment business in the 1990s was the fucking bomb!
Many iconic movies were created during this time, and several of them were based on books.
While this exact number of movies I wrote below based on books in the 1990s is a lot. I know I’m missing more, but I got what I need to get my point across to my lovely readers. Maybe we can prevent the future from crashing!
Some of the most notable 1990s movies based on books include:
“Shakespeare In Love” (1998)
“The Piano” (1993)
“The First Wives Club” (1996)
“The Crow” (1994)
“The Parent Trap” (1996)
“Forrest Gump” (1994)
“The Borrowers” (1998)
“Home Alone” (1990)
“Indian In The Cupboard” (1995)
The 1990s saw a WIDE range of film GENRES, including:
romantic comedies
dramas
action
and horror.
It was a decade that produced many iconic and enduring movies, some of which continue to be popular and relevant to this day.
That is if you still have a VHS tape player like I do, and if you don’t have one you should probably go get one somewhere so you and your family can watch a good movie!
The 90s were also characterized by the rise of teen comedies and the peak of the rom-com genre.
While the exact number of movies based on books in the 1990s is not displayed above luckily you can find search results on your own time!
The 1990s was a prolific time for the entertainment industry, with a diverse range of movies that continue to be celebrated for —
Creating imagination, or making imaginational films is what made my childhood!
Have you ever seen a movie you loved so much, or the narrative was so strong, that it had you trying the impossible?
Perhaps it was spray-painting your dog with black spots?
Perhaps it was making you girls pierce your ear with a lemon and ice cube, after watching the Parent Trap — OHOH-what about pushing your parent into the water while they were on the float bed camping?
Perhaps you were like I was when I got that toy Indian for Christmas 22 years ago!?
I hit every garage sale in town looking for that white cupboard. It was in that movie & when I found one, I was through the fuckin roof filled with excitement!
I opened it up quickly because I needed to get that thing home and try it out! It was exactly what I needed to make my dream and imagination come true!
The Moment of Truth
I felt like the rain was falling in my brain, I was shaking. It was almost like everything I ever hoped for wasn’t going to happen. It was the moment I had been waiting for, I even had a fishing net handy in case I needed to catch the Indian who never came flying the fuck out like he did in the movie!
I thought at first it was my Indian guy because the cupboard looked exactly like the one in the movie, so I asked Mom —
“Can you get me a real fake Indian mom? — Derek.0
‘WHAT THE FUCK IS A REAL FAKE INDIAN?’
Do you want a fake one, or a real one damn it?
No, she never said that to me although it would have been funny, so I wrote it:)
My mom decided to grab me by both hands and kneel in front of me.
I always knew when mom grabbed both hands shit was going to be serious!
She said —
“The Indian in The Cupboard is just a movie, it isn’t real.”
“You won’t be able to make anything come alive by turning the key in the cupboard”
“okay hun?”
All the thoughts emotions and questions came pouring over me —is my imagination real? Is their imagination real? How did they make the Indians so small?
The ‘90s was entertainment!
The same entertainment I want back today on the big screen!
There is something I didn’t quite learn until later on in life that I would like to mention.
My favorite childhood VHS movies were based on books!
Authors like Lynne Reid Banks, & Mary Norton!
I can remember watching — The Borrowers, and The Indian in the Cupboard on repeat if you were like I was born in the early 90s you realized how to start planning. If you were a VHS guy.
You had to rewind them!
To avoid having to rewind the tape each time, I made sure to rewind it right after finishing it, in case I didn’t want to wait for it to rewind next time.
Large People who got magically put into a mice-sized living life!
In the big giant world!
It was so easy to gather Americans for a family movie night in the 90s. I wish those days would return soon because nowadays it seems like the entertainment industry only cares about one thing — profitably fear — and not about the diversity of genres.
WHY!
They don't make movies based on amazing literacy from great authors who passionately wrote the story for a great purpose anymore really, do they?
Especially with all the great authors out there today why in the fuck can’t they bring the same good entertainment back that makes people’s imaginations grow?
(K.i.s.s.) Keep It Simple Stupid
The Government?
They do not want us to have an imagination!
They want to drive fear into the narrative they created!
I hate just how violent the E-business has gotten in the past few decades.
If the so-called ‘real news is on, there always talking about the phony shit — right, the sick shit, well imagine a world where the corruption of these people was videotaped — the stuff they want you to see!
They have the main character in the movie laughing at YOU, he is the creator of the biggest drug/sex trafficking organization.
Don’t be afraid people — it shows exactly how to commit all these violent acts!
Imagine a movie about sex trafficking that is going on ‘EVERYWHERE’ in the World. — Stating ‘your neighbor is probably one’ — is a fear-driven purpose to scare Americans.
They want us to take control of that documentary — Sound of Freedom is just one of the perfect examples of how fucked up the entertainment business has gotten nowadays!
Jim Caviezel’s latest ‘movie’ — controversy update from another reporter on this pile of trash movie!
On July 4, independent film distribution company Angel Studios released 54-year-old Caviezel’s new movie Sound of Freedom into theaters. The well-reviewed film (it holds a fresh score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes) stars the Passion of the Christ actor as real-life U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent named Tim Ballard, a co-founder of the anti-trafficking organization Operation Underground Railroad.
The movie, which centers around a mission Ballard undertakes to rescue children from sex slavery around the world, has since earned more than $85 million so far at the domestic box office. Sound of Freedom finished this past weekend at second place behind Tom Cruise’s latest Mission: Impossible film, per Box Office Mojo.
“Based on the gripping true story of a man’s mission to rescue children from the darkest corners of the world,” reads an official synopsis for the movie on Angel Studios’ website. The synopsis says the film “shines a light on the harrowing reality of sex trafficking and the valiant efforts of those who work tirelessly to combat it.”
Jim Caviezel
Okay, okay, enough jazz on that shitty-ass movie that wants Americans to go nuts.
You can’t turn on the TV without getting distracted by the thoughts of just how corrupt everything has gotten.
There is a medication commercial now every other one.
Our weatherman is smoking pot, its legal here but come on man!
Taylor Swift is an asset to democracy makes me laugh!
TURN OFF THE T.V!
Unless you are like one of those cold case file killers who is learning how to get away with murder on TV, UHHH, that sounds destructive, doesn’t it?
“We have way too many people out there waiting to put the Indian in the cupboard.”
Jason Provencio, thank you for always pushing me to become a better writer by reading your articles which always makes me have a great laugh! I appreciate you more than words can show!
