Driving Over Certain Pedestrians Should Be Legal
If they’re not paying attention
Cell phones have evolved incredibly well for decades now. When I was a kid in the 90s, I remember seeing my mom & my sisters use a pay phone near this local store to make calls to people.
I don’t think I saw anyone with a cell phone at the time.
It wasn’t until my parents got me my first Sprint cell phone at the age of 15 that I became conscious of cell phones. I was ecstatic! That phone felt like the future. And it was — until one day I dropped it in a water area at SeaWorld San Antonio.
I grabbed that phone out of the water as if my life depended on it.
I was devastated that it happen and hoped that the phone was okay.
The phone looked okay at first and worked normally, but as the days passed by, it slowly started to come apart, until one day it came apart in a dramatic way. That’s when I knew it went to phone heaven.
RIP Sprint Phone.
Three years later, I would get another cell phone. This phone I remember very well because it had the internet on it. At the time, that blew my mind.
‘’Internet on a cell phone?’’
This was uncharted waters to me (and probably others too).
The Internet worked all right to a point and then it would move real slow. This pattern kept up until I couldn’t use the phone anymore.
Throughout the years, cell phones would continue to transform into what they are today in 2023.
These smartphones today REALLY are the future. They’re like mini tablets you can use anywhere.
You can put a million apps on your phone. From social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to helpful ones like Google Maps and Uber Eats.
Like the smart TV, the stuff you can find on your phone is endless.
With all the amazing things we can do with our phones, it’s easy to get lost in them. And some people do get lost in them… literally.
Like the various people, we see in public areas who have their eyes glued to their phones while walking towards your way. And if you don’t move out of their path, they could charge into you.
I believe we’ve seen people being locked into our phones.
It’s gotten so bad that you’ll have pedestrians walking across the street with HEAVY car activity glued to their phones.
Some of them behave like zombies when they cross the road, especially in heavy traffic. It’s asinine. Some be texting on their phones and walking across the street. Slowly.
I’ve seen this happen a few times this year. It’s mind-boggling to me.
I could never be glued to my phone while I’m walking on the street. For most of my 20s, I took public transportation all over the city of San Antonio. And I had to cross a lot of streets that had crazy traffic on them.
A lot of vehicles were going wasp speed too, so I had to time my walk (or run) right to get across the street to safety. It felt like a video game, only you don’t have someone with a controller that can start the level over again.
Unless you want to look at God as someone with a controller.
So the vehicles that roam the streets had my undivided attention — because I wanted to live to see another day.
But not some of these pedestrians I see. They look like they had this mentality that they own the streets.
Alright. Stay right there with your phone, so I can run you over.
There should be a law made that if any pedestrian crosses the street with their attention on their phones, run them over with your ride!
Or better yet, I would love to have a big speakerphone and yell at these kinds of pedestrians.
‘’GET OFF YOUR PHONE!
‘’YOU’RE ON THE STREET!’’
‘’PAY ATTENTION!’’
‘’USE YOUR EYES!’’
‘’GET YOUR EYES OUT OF YOUR PHONE SCREEN’’
‘’IT IS DANGEROUS TO TEXT ON A ROAD WITH A LOT OF TRAFFIC!’’’’
‘’PUT THE PHONE DOWN’’
‘’YOU’LL LIVE WITH NOT TEXTING FOR A FEW SECONDS/MINUTES’’
‘’IF YOU PROCEED IN THIS ACT, YOU WILL BE RUN OVER!’’
‘’I REPEAT, IF YOU PROCEED IN THIS ACT, YOU WILL BE RUN OVER…by a monster truck.’’
‘’Have a nice day.’’
Yes, smartphones are fun to have your eyes on for 14 hours. But not on the road when you’re crossing in front of vehicles that can cause serious harm to your body.
At least wait until you get out of the road to use your phone.
I don’t wanna anyone run over by the way (well…except evil people). I value human life too much for that. But some of these pedestrians need a little scare to see that the road isn’t a safe place to be glued to your phone.
Pay attention.
