Brand re-identification

In traffic today, we were behind a cute little hatchback called a Veloster. As we edged closer, I was trying to see the logo for the car manufacturer.

“Can you see who makes it?” my husband asked.

I burst into laughter. The official manufacturer logo had been replaced by a logo of a velociraptor.

To many of the people who own these vehicles, the name “Veloster” sounds like “Velociraptor”. So they replace the Hyundai logo with an aftermarket velociraptor logo that is the exact same size and shape.

They have car clubs with names like the Lady Raptors and the Carolina Raptors. Other normal-sounding clubs, like the Middle Georgia Veloster Society have a club logo of dueling velociraptors.

They just want to drive a dinosaur. And really, on some level, don’t we all?
