Don’t Upload AI Coloring Books To Amazon KDP Unless You Do THIS | AI Update Part 2

The world is rapidly embracing artificial intelligence and the publishing industry is no exception.
Amazon KDP has recently introduced new guidelines for using AI in creating books.
If you are not up to date with these new guidelines, I previously wrote a comprehensive guide on understanding these regulations and my plans moving forward.
This article is Part 2 and I will walk you through my experience of uploading an AI coloring book under the new AI guidelines.
My AI Coloring Book Brand

My brand, D&D Coloring Press, was created in February, earlier this year and has effectively utilized AI to create coloring books.
Its success showcases the potential of the market. For example, my large print owl, cat, and dog coloring books have received reviews averaging 4.5 stars.

My books have received several positive comments and these accomplishments highlight that when AI-generated books are crafted properly, they can truly resonate with and attract a dedicated audience.
I added this Large Print Turtle Coloring Book using AI to my brand on September 11th.

However, when publishing an AI-generated book under the new guidelines, I noticed no visible indication required in the title, subtitle, or description.

During the uploading process, I disclosed my use of AI-generated images.

I selected yes to images and chose the option of ‘Many AI-generated images, with minimal or no changes and the tool I used to create my images was Midjourney.
It definitely appears Amazon is primarily gathering data on AI usage at this moment due to there being no visible difference with my Turtle Coloring Book. There is no indication from Amazon of banning or being against such content.
Through discussions with the Amazon Customer team, they provided clarity regarding AI’s application in descriptions and covers. While AI-generated descriptions don’t require disclosure, AI-generated covers certainly do.
Do AI Books Still Rank On Amazon?
Many authors and publishers express concerns about how these new guidelines might affect their book rankings. However, the evidence suggests there’s little to worry about.

In the image above my Large Print Turtle Coloring Book is already ranking 1st for the keyword despite only being created on September 11th.
This proves, AI-generated books, if well-optimized and relevant, can still hold premium positions in search rankings. Thus, it is evident that the new guidelines won’t hinder a book’s ability to rank well.
Best Practices for AI Coloring Book Creation
If you’re considering entering the world of AI coloring books, or if you’re already in it, it’s vital to adhere to best practices:
- Image Quality: Always upscale your images from platforms like Mid-Journey to enhance the resolution before uploading to Amazon. You should use BigJPG.com for this.
- Editing: Use tools like Canva AI to fix common AI-generated image issues. The ‘Magic Eraser’ tool, for instance, can fix anomalies like illustrations with three legs or arms.
- Copyright Concerns: Use reverse image search platforms like Tineye.com to ensure the originality of your images.
Conclusion
The introduction of AI guidelines on Amazon KDP underscores the importance and potential of AI-generated content. By being transparent, adhering to best practices, and constantly updating knowledge, authors and publishers can confidently navigate these waters.
