Don’t Let Emotion Define You
The Dark Dot Is Always There
The Dark Dot was the thing that saved me It took me away from what I knew It’s time to leave this place; now it’s time to go and find a new one, a better one. To go somewhere, you’ll have wings in your eyes when you can fly. You’ll soon start to feel the heat of your own destiny, so flyaways away, escape the strain, and you’ll see. The Dark dot in all its light I can barely breathe. It’s not meant for me but for everything and everyone.

a blotch on the canvas.
A dark dot. What does it mean? It means a speck of dust, a little bit of dirt, a grain of sand. It is minuscule, and yet, it is powerful. It can change the meaning of what you see in front of you, or it can be ignored and stifled by your limited perception. It reflects light that’s too dark to perceive until it feels like magic through your contact lens, like the first time you saw raindrops as they fell onto green leaves against the night sky with all its stars blinking away in anticipation for their next appearance. In life, many things happen that just aren’t whole or complete because we don’t know what they mean yet and what they loo. The black dot is like a solar eclipse. That should give you a little bit of an idea of what this means.
It can indeed be a statement. Followed by the question: “What does it mean?” Which is evergreen. It doesn’t need to be answered, but only looked at and thought about until it becomes a truth for you, whether you understand it or not. But it can also be an expression. Stuck in between quotation marks like a withering connotation or phrase that sits in a sentence like an unknown variable.
It can also be a stanza or line break like the pause at the end of every sentence, every utterance, and noise. Sometimes, it separates what you are saying from what you are about to say. It’s the conscious decision to put a period at the end of this sentence, a colon or semi-colon where there was a complete stop before. It is never just abstract. It is always an expression or an instruction. It also means direction. The area above and beyond sight is where you can look through a microscope. It is an item added to the list of things that make you feel awkward or solve a typical case of insomnia. It can be the distance between two people when something has been said, and it’s not worth saying anymore. It’s the space between two people when awkward silence hangs like a sheet in the air like a curtain. It means something, but you’re not sure what it means. So you save it as a truth, an idea for another day, or perhaps another book.
The meaning is sometimes implied with the proposition of “What does it mean?” and so it becomes a memory or nostalgia, both of which can be illusions masquerading as truth.
And then there’s the meaning you put on it. The sense you construct for yourself, like a house of cards that fall when the wind blows through it. And so you start again, but this time, with more conviction than before. Until it becomes an edifice that is firm and unmovable under your feet.
