Don’t Let Coronavirus Become A Disease Of The Soul

It’s time to go back to things that make life worth living

Maybe you are someone who is struggling, unsatisfied with your own life. You don’t feel like you’ve done anything important. On top of that, for some reason, nobody loves you.

And now, on top of everything: the Coronavirus.

Don’t let panic and depression take over you.

Look at this situation as a chance to be more honest with yourself.

Today might be the day when you are free from a job that you hated or didn’t bring much satisfaction, and have more time, for what’s important to you.

Maybe you’re one of the millions of unemployed due to virus spread.

Don’t panic. I know it makes you angry and it’s not fair, but don’t panic.

There’s a reason for everything, and there’s still hope.

This might be your chance to become your own boss, for the rest of your life. Isn’t that fantastic?

I have tried almost everything there is to try to make more out of my life, but I never tried to fulfill my greatest dream. I was too lonely and scared and did many mistakes, and now I feel as if life is somehow punishing me for that.

This might be the right moment for you (and me) to start doing something else. Something that we like. Something that we need. And has nothing to do with measuring our temperature every hour, being scared to leave the house, shopping on the internet, stressing about new sources of income.

We are given the chance to make our lives special and fun again.

For me, it’s like with the old movies.

I used to love going to the theatre, cinema, concerts, and restaurants. I loved to socialize and go out every evening, and spent almost all my money on that.

When I realized, a few months ago, that the lockdown could last for a long time, I started to think about what matters to me. I started to wonder about what I really, truly like.

Besides building great relationships and spending time with people who are dear to me (if possible) and work in order to pay the bills, I knew that, before I die, I wanted to read some great books and watch some great movies (also, live a true love- well, that’s more complicated).

In the end, the best things that give us joy aren’t things

I discovered something I didn’t even know about myself: as I need an escape from reality, I adore old movies. Cary Grant, Robert Redford, Catharine Hepburn, Marylin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Julie Andrews, Bette Davis, and so on. They all kept me company, introducing me to a splendid world, full of glamour, high quality humour, intelligent scenery, elegance. A world that exists no more, and maybe existed only there, in those movies. And that’s fine with me.

This is just a little personal example, of a “hobby” I discovered during isolation. You can do it too. It’s the only way that you can save yourself, and maybe, other people.

Find joy in simple things, with (almost) zero costs

Find out what it is that you love. What inspires you? What makes you happy? Now’s the right time.

Examples and ideas that won’t cost you money:

  • read about anything that interests you, on medium.com
  • become perfect at what you already do
  • learn (work on) how to be a better person
  • learn how to… (anything you can find online, for free)
  • get a pet
  • open a youtube channel
  • write a novel
  • learn how to handwrite
  • learn a foreign language
  • write real letters to your dear ones, or to someone. Then put them in a bottle and drop them into the ocean
  • do some research about something you’re passionate about
